We're trippin'!

Posted in Family Adventures • Sep. 9, 2006

Field Trippin', that is!  From the simple backyard, to an authentic castle, to a county Fair, to the world of Thomas the Tank Engine, the Incredibles have been on the go the last few days!  Here's what we did:

Our "field trip" to the back yard... we became archaologists and dug up clues to figure out the mystery person.  Who was it?  See if you can figure it out:  The clues were a sippy cup, size 3 diaper, rattle, ducky toy, and a container of Cheerios.  Yep, it's....... JACK-JACK!

Here are the four of us in an alcove of the outside of the castle.

Next, one of us got a little more exotic and took a trip four hours away!

It was Violet!  She went with Nana to visit Uncle Jeff, Aunt Beth, and their little Jenna!

There are the aforementioned Aunt and Uncle.  Aunt Beth is ready to have a baby in the next few weeks!  (if you talk to her, she'd tell you she is ready today, I think!)

And here is Violet with little Jenna, who is about ready to be a big sister, but too little to know it yet!

While she was gone, we did something fun with the boys: A Day Out with Thomas!  If you look closely, you will see Thomas's face in the background.  We did not ride the train (because it is PRICEY), but you can do everything else there for free!  So we spent the morning watching Thomas go and playing with all the fun activities they had there.

Now, we have our girl back, and we are TIRED!  But, it sure was fun to do all that!

Our friends from WVA took their son out to Thomas this weekend, then visited us for a picnic. It was mega-fun. Their daughter is our #3 dd's penpal but the girls had never met. The magic look on Abby's face was so heartwarming!

That castle looks amazing. I'll definitely be 'trippin' there in the next few years. We only live three hours from you!

We went up to Lake Erie, just past Cleveland last summer for a little trip. We stopped at the Bible Museum up there somewhere. Pretty cool! And then we went to the town (Mansfield, I think) where one of my favorite movies, "Shawshank Redemption", was filmed. Kinda spooky, but pretty cool to see the old reformatory. If the kiddos had been older, we would have done the tour. But we did enjoy some great food at a local soda shop and a carousel ride.

That trip whet my appeite for great road trip-type field trips. Learned about these great places from the Ohio tour book, "Kids Love Ohio". Do you have it? It's so worth the money!

Just checking in,
Sweet Blessings,
Joni

I love your post on your field trips, and a castle-wow! I didn't know we had any in north america. We were just in Ireland and saw really amazing, ancient bldings, including a castle - I was sad I didn't have my kids with me to see all of this history. This is more attainable for a fieldtrip, thanks for sharing. Your blogs on your homeschool happenings are really encouraging to me.
