This year, we are using Adventures in My Father's World for our core curriculum. Here is where I should disclose for you new readers that Mrs. Incredible is just a tad ADD, and has not up to this point found a packaged curriculum which suits her crazy eclectic nature.
Enter Adventures in My Father's World. Upon hearing rave reviews from a brilliant homeschooling friend of mine, I decided that we would try it for this year. So far, we are LOVING it! I just joined a blogroll of families using My Father's World curriculum, but I don't have the directions on how to post the link or the blogroll yet, so hopefully I can post that soon. I hope to post some of what we are doing up here soon so you can share in some of our "Adventures"!
We are currently in week 7, and so far we have learned about the discovery of America from the Vikings to Columbus to the Spanish Explorers to the Pilgrims to the French Settlers. OK, I will admit it right now that despite considering myself to be well educated, I somehow never pieced all of this together! I pretty much thought Columbus discovered America and then the Pilgrims came here, and other than the Indians, they were pretty much the only people here for a while. I never knew the history of Michigan, how Detroit and the Cadillac got their names, or about early settlers from Holland or the history of Florida.
Who said homeschooling is just for the kids? ;)
So, it is working well for us for the most part so far, but I will reserve my final judgment until spring, when we will have done it longer.
Now, come on... admit it.... you didn't know all that history stuff either ;)
