Incredible Adventures in My Father's World

This year, we are using Adventures in My Father's World for our core curriculum.  Here is where I should disclose for you new readers that Mrs. Incredible is just a tad ADD, and has not up to this point found a packaged curriculum which suits her crazy eclectic nature.

Enter Adventures in My Father's World.  Upon hearing rave reviews from a brilliant homeschooling friend of mine, I decided that we would try it for this year.  So far, we are LOVING it!  I just joined a blogroll of families using My Father's World curriculum, but I don't have the directions on how to post the link or the blogroll yet, so hopefully I can post that soon.  I hope to post some of what we are doing up here soon so you can share in some of our "Adventures"!

We are currently in week 7, and so far we have learned about the discovery of America from the Vikings to Columbus to the Spanish Explorers to the Pilgrims to the French Settlers.  OK, I will admit it right now that despite considering myself to be well educated, I somehow never pieced all of this together!  I pretty much thought Columbus discovered America and then the Pilgrims came here, and other than the Indians, they were pretty much the only people here for a while.  I never knew the history of Michigan, how Detroit and the Cadillac got their names, or about early settlers from Holland or the history of Florida.

Who said homeschooling is just for the kids? ;)

So, it is working well for us for the most part so far, but I will reserve my final judgment until spring, when we will have done it longer.

Now, come on... admit it.... you didn't know all that history stuff either ;)

I am so totally loving homeschooling because of what I'M learning! When I went to school I learned/remembered learning math and how to write a 5 paragraph paper. Those were the only things that were ingrained in me because of the way they were taught. They way I was taught everything else was, here is this fact, study, test, forget. I get excited when my hubby comes home from work and I start telling him what we learned that day!! :-))

OHHHHH!!!!

I have to tell you that I used to, for the LONGEST time, check your blog every single day in case you came back to us, but then, to ward off disappointment, I just stopped all together, so......

Imagine my SURPRISE to see you today!!!! I'm SO glad you're back!!!

And I'm going right on over to Adventures in My Father's World to check it out for myself, as all we're doing right now is Saxon Math with the DIVE CD, because we ran out of money in the budget for schoolwork.......so we need to get some other things that are on my list.......

Anyway, did I mention that I was so happy you're back??

Take care and come visit me soon!!!

Lots of ***hugs***

Leanne in Longview WA

PS: I didn't know any of that either, and yes, I sure am learning a lot in this, our 7th year of homeschooling. My children are much more intelligent than I am!! :~0

lol.. I love your "Mrs. Incredible" display pic.. that's the cutes blog I've seen yet! haha..

I can't wait to have kids and homeschool them- partly because I, too, want to "redo" school since I was so brain-dead and un-interested when it was my turn! lol.. I LOVE history. and learning about the various wars. I think it's just so cool!

have a great day,
love,
jessica

Oct. 19, 2007 - Re: Cincinnati

Hey, "Mrs. Incredible"... LOL

Where did you live in Cincy? That is where I was born, and lived for most of my elem. school years. (We moved to KY when I was in Kind., but moved back) Things have changed so much since I moved away.

You're back!!! I'm so excited you're back to blogging again. Just for the record, I always say that I know nothing about history. That's the great thing about homeschooling, you and your kids learn together :)
