Mar. 28, 2006 - Writing and Art
The boys actually did their writing assignments. They were reworking the story "The boy who cried wolf" using their own characters and whatnot.
Jaedin (9) wrote The Bomb Who Cried 'Fuse is Lit'! and wrote just such a cute story! I was shocked. I didn't think he'd put that much thought and creativity into it. Kainan (10) wrote The Dummy and the Leotard... which weas just odd. I think he was trying to be funny like his sister... and it just didn't quite... get there. But he did write! yay!
Today for art, I made a copy of a couple of Mary Cassatt paintings of moms and babies... and then traced the outlines for a coloring book type page. I made copies of the coloring pages really lightly on the copy machine, and then the little girls and I learned shading techniques and then started coloring int he pictures with prismacolors. They did great! I was really impressed with those kids.
I did the same thing with a Duccio painting for the boys and we practiced doing skin tones and shading with layers with the pencils as well.
The "big" girls used what they learned last week about drawing skin tones and whatnot by drawing a part of a Renoir painting.
That was about the extent of our day today... that, and cleaning up from the party from yesterday!
