Aug. 25, 2005 - Science today.. and our typical schedule!

I'm using this as my "records" more or less, my accountability for myself, whatever, so its probably a bit boring for anyone else!

Today we studied flowers a little more in depth.  Paris and Sprite worked on small things for their lapbook (They have been assigned "plants and Flowers" for their lapbook... the boys have "Animlas")

We disected flowers and found the different parts, planted 4 different kinds of seeds in glass jars to watch them sprout.  And read a little about plant classification.

We actually accomplished a full school day again today with minimal stress!  Wow!  We started at 10:30 ~ late start since I didn't notice in the chaos that is morning hta the was still in BED.  I guess I'm not terribly awake in the mornings either!!

We finished at 3:15 after doing:

~~Bible (during which we learned our fourth memory verse for the year ~ THAT is going well!  Thanks to Konos and the white board idea**) ,

~~Read aloud (The Secret Garden),

~~Vocabulary (from www.vocabulary.com) witht he roots "JUS, JUR, CER, CERN, CRE & LEG"  I REALLY like that site!,

~~Independant reading time:

**Sprite "The Sea Around Us" by Rachel Carson

**Kainan "Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder

**Jaedin "Mowgli's Stories" by Rudyard Kipling

**Paris right now is reading different somewhat easier readers until we find a good book for her that works!  She's read a couple of books each day, one easy one to Abyni, and then one on her own.

I fix lunch during their reading time, then its lunch, chores and recess...

Afternoon starts with Konos and ends with Math or switched slightly depending on Abyni's nap ~ she likes to join us during Konos.

Some other things I didn't add to the "schedule" but happen in there ~ copywork varies ~ today it was their memory verse.  Sprite does school with Abyni when she finishes her Vocab or reading early (she does vocabulary on her free time quite often, so its a fun subject for her)

Anyway... we ended with planting things... tomorrow we're going to make balloon planets with different color/size balloons and permanent markers and hang them from teh ceiling in the school room.  I planned this partly as decoration for the party ~ but no on knows that!  If it goes well, I plan on doing paper mache' planets soon for the boys' ceiling.

Anyway ~ off to gather the children for "Quiet Time" ~ Reading only... stay up, but you have to stay IN YOUR "Reading Space" and BE QUIET!!
