Sep. 12, 2005 - New Konos Unit starts today:) Cooperation; Body Systems

We started integrating our new Konos Study today...

We started our Bible study with 2 Corinthians 6:16 and talked about our bodies being a temple and how that should affect the way we act... the things we do and whatnot.

I then introduced our new "topic" of Cooperation and Body systems and we talked about that for a bit, how the two relate and so forth.  I had the kids take turns youngest to oldest, naming ten body parts (no repeats!)  It started to get a little challenging:)

Jaedin has been having pain in his ear, so he went to lie down with some ear drops and watch Magic School Bus on Disc. Kids for a while until his tylenol kicked in.  The other kids worked on their Secret Garden projects (in groups... so still cooperation!!:)

Abyni and I went in the kitchen and used the last of our big roll of paper to trace her outline... her whole body.  Then we hung the poster, and she labelled the "hand" and "foot" for today.  Each day I'll have her label a few other parts.  The older kids will be drawing different organs where they go and labeling them as we learn about them.  I'm not sure how we'll do all the different systems of the body, probably lap books or something of that nature that we can keep.

I had Kainan copy down the verse "We are fearfully and wodnerfully made" at the top of the poster, and Paris copied down our verse from this morning on a card to add to our big body poster.

Kainan and I ran to the library and got a stack of books on "The Human Body" and other body systems as well as some books Helen Keller while the other kids had their lunch recess.

After lunch recess and chores, we got back to school...

The kids all started a book on Helen Keller.  Sprite is reading The Helen Keller Story by Catherine Owens Peare and she really likes it.  SHe read about Helen when she was younger and enjoyed it, but says this book is much better than the things she read as a 9 year old.  Paris has some easier readers about Helen Keller, and the boys are reading different books, Jaedin is reading a fictional account of Helen Keller and Dr. Bell, "Dear Dr. Bell... Your Friend Helen Keller." and Kainan is reading another one.

We watched a video on Monet, and when Jaedin is feeling better, we'll do a painting project based on Monet's style.... and then we're going to watch the video "ERIC CARLE Picture Maker" for a big bunch of fun crafty ideas.  I can't wait to make "Eric Carle" style pictures, and the girls are REALLY excited about it too!

That's about it for anything interesting that happened today!
