Oct. 7, 2005 - Greek, Literature and Share Day

We started our English Fromt he Roots up yesterday and the kids all helped make their flashcards.  We started with  the Greek roots "Photos," "Tele" and "graph."  The kids and I all discussed the meanings, and then thought of words that had those roots in them.  It was cool to watch it all come together.

We're getting to the end of books again, so I visited a site that has lists of books for the kids to choose from:  http://www.classical-homeschooling.org/celoop/1000-junior.html  Paris is at the point where her favorite books "Amelia Bedelia" and such are just too easy, but its hard to find the next level without it being too much, or just twaddle stuff that doesn't hold her interest.  I reserved a bunch from the library for her to try out.  Sprite is getting to the same point for herself.  She's reading at a much higher level than she's ready for subject matter wise sometimes.  Ugh.  I guess we'll wade through some books until we find what we're looking for!

We all went to our HS support group's "Share Day" today.  Basically, whoever wants to shows up and does a version of a report or show and tell.  Abyni took her flowers that she received from her cousin Dallas after he saw her performance in The Wizard of Oz play.  She told everyone about that.

Jaedin took his snake and did a bit of a talk on snakes in general.  He did an amazing job ~ with absolutely no help from me.  I was so impressed!

Kainan did a report on Pandas, and had Jaedin, Paris and Abyni do a little visual aide/skit type thing while he was telling about baby pandas, how much they eat and the details of their endangered status.

Paris had drawn and cut out several different bones from the human skeleton and then taped the bones on Kainan as she told wht the bones were called.

Sprite showed a lap book she had made ~ and her lack of interest in Science in general!

Sprite did the Bible work with the kids this morning while I ran and picked up our cat from the vet.  She had pulled out all her stitches from being spayed on Tuesday and had to go in and get staples.

Anyway ~ that was the majority of our school day!
