Oct. 29, 2005 - Teacher's Encouragement
Our CHEER leader, Erin Blain, had a meeting in her home Thursday night (the day I finished up most of the kids' costumes!) that I resisted going to... just because I was exhausted and felt like I wanted to just stay home and be lazy...
Well, I went anyway, and was so blessed and refreshed.
We all talked about different learning disabilites and teaching techniques, testing, good books to read, etc. We discussed dyslexia, ADD tendencies, slow reading, etc.
I have such a hard time with being so very right brained ~ "ADD" to the extreme, although I really hate labels, I'm too distracted at the moment to explain any better than that! And my son has attention issues as well. I was really struggling with the fact that because "I" have such major attention issues, that I wasn't doing what was best to help Jaedin inprove HIS issues. Erin had some great suggestions (such as making Jaedin "create a movie" in his head to picture a job/errand/chore and then tell me about the movie to help it stick in his head and mine) THis suggestion made SO much sense, esp when I realized that is what I do naturally when I have things to do that I don't want to forget! She also suggested some books, but I forget where I wrote them down, so I'll have to ask again!
Anyway ~ yet another I love my support group post!
