Jan. 26, 2006 - Energy; conservation & sources
Today for Konos we discussed kinetic vs. potential energy. We discussed various sources of energy, and the things they "power."
Because I want to see what they already know, I assigned them each a room for "homework" to be finished before tomorrow afternoon. They have to go through their room and find as many ways to save energy (and $$$) as possible, listing no less than five, with bonus computer time for extras they may think of.
Since right now is as good a time as any to be money conscious, I am going to really try to drum it into them that we need to conserve energy as much as possible in the winter. I'm curious to see what good ideas they have ~ and am thinking I may "assign" them their room for a bit to keep an eye on it and make sure the energy saving ideas they thought of are being implemented.
We read some more Belles on Their Toes ~ and the chapter today was about bathing suits and their modesty (or lack thereof in "those days") Which was kind of funny, since yesterday Sprite's bio-dad called and asked her to pick out a swimming suit online for him to order before he comes for a visit. She spent a while this morning before school trying to find something she thought she'd feel was modest enough for her to feel comfortable in. It was interesting to see the ideas of "immodest" in the book after all our viewing of suits this morning!!
We did math (large four digit multiplication with the box method), Bible (Honoring Parents and discipline in general), the kids all did their independant reading and copywork, as well as history. The current bios being Alexander Graham Bell and Benjamin Franklin. Jaedin just loves reading the biographies about inventors! I can barely get him to put the books down when the subject is over! He will read the book all the way back to the bookshelf and still be reading AS he is closing it to put it away:) He is so funny!
So, all in all, it was a good school day... pretty complete, I think I listed all we did. Sprite is asking about starting up Latin again. I had forgotten in the move I'd misplaced our cards and just completely forgot about it! Yikes. I guess I'llhave to get that put on our schedule starting next week again!
That's all folks:)
P.S. I did my exercises AGAIN today! Whoo Hoo! Two days in a row:)
