Dec. 15, 2005 - About Us ~ A Babbling Introduction
So ... a blog for homeschooling. Dedicated to my friend, Michelle, who said I needed one for homeschooling. Hi Michelle!
I decided to call it "Does This Count As School?" because I spend too much time wondering that. My homeschooling *ideal* is a Bluedorn-style Classical Education. My homeschooling practice is a little more ecclectic, disorganized, and loose than that.
We have 6 children. Their fake blog names are:
Princess Leia, age 10
Gark, age 8-nearly-9 (birthday coming SOON!)
Princess Emidala, age 6
Tobi-wan Kenobi, age 4
LittleD, age 3 and
Baby Buzz, currently 7.5 months.
Much of our homeschool "core" is reading aloud, which involves nearly everyone, with some freedom for the littles to come and go quietly, depending on the book. Much of our day is spend floundering, as I am still trying to learn self-discipline and organization at the ripe old age of thirty-something (closer to 40 than 30) ... I am hoping to teach my children better than I learned, that they might be responsible, self-disciplined and obedient to the Lord as adults.
Together we're learning, with one foot stuck in the muck and mire, and training our eyes to stay fixed on the Rock.
"Psalm 40:2
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand."

Welcome to HSB! That is the beauty of homeschooling, being able to do what fits and change what doesn't. Reading aloud is a wonderful way to learn and hit a lot of different areas as you vary the reading material. Looking forward to reading more about your days.
