• Oct. 15, 2005 - Thanksgiving

One thing the web had done, is opened my eyes to what is really going on among people and the damage that the public education system has done our society--how it has changed the flavor and personality of our country, in cooperation with the media and many other things.

I couldn't believe a blog I ran across where a girl was asking what the point of Thanksgiving was, and who cared, anyway.

It made me more determined to have an extra spiritually minded Thanksgiving for my family.

You can watch a ball game any day.  You can sit around the meal table and say trivial things to your family and friends any ol' time.  You can eat a whole lot of food until you are stuffed, even on days that are not special.  So this year we are going to have a Thanksgiving Day and make an opportunity to learn from it and appreciate it.

America isn't just any ol' place and Thanksgiving isn't just turkey day.

I'm passionate about my country, and I'll explain why as time permits.

As an American who has spent several years living outside of the US, I too am passionate about our country. I hope you'll share more of your ideas for making Thanksgiving more than just "turkey day".

Beautifully said Mrs. Sherman. I LOVE this focus. IT really bothers me when we've let the the 'old traditions' be bulldozed by today's desire for NEW NEW NEW and redefining the old so that even the old is NEW. BLECH. Makes me want to go buy antiques for the sheer joy of knowing that someone loved and cared for them before even my mother was born!

• Oct. 16, 2005 - Thanksgiving rudeness

I consider it very rude the way grown children come home at Thanksgiving, expect a big dinner and want to dominate the home with the ballgame on loud. I have the same feeling as the one who wants to go out and buy antiques. Such disregard for the solemnity of the situation just makes me want to go buy an old fashioned buffet table, set the table and make everyone mind their manners. These attitudes that we can all let down at home and stay in pyjamas on Thanksgiving day, like the rest of the world, have crept into the church. Nothing is sacred, nothing is worth dressing for, and everyone has their mouth open with some stupid joke. Sigh....

You'll love "Costumes With Character" here http://a2zdesigns.vcn.com/bookpage.html where you can view the pages and illustrations. On the left of this particular page are some things we all need to know about Thanksgiving.

Our grandchildren are going to put on a special Thanksgiving play, and we are going to dress in costume. At dinner, one of of the family is going to tell some of the circumstances surrounding the first Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm sure they didn't envision future generations living satiated lives full of contempt for history and lack of gratitude for the past, when that hard winter was over. Modernists find it necessary to erase the knowledge of the past, in order to mold the future generations into feeling-less people who don't understand the meaning of life and will not effectively carry on the teachings of their parents.
