• Apr. 29, 2006 - Letting God lead
I wonder if Paul's mom and dad sat around, trying to figure out what job they should train Paul for, so that he'd be a great leader. "Hmm. Tent-making....that would portable, plus he'd have a natural place to look for friends all over the empire. Let's make sure he knows the Hebrew scriptures well, and also give him a smattering of Greek culture and logic, in case he ever wants to talk to people in Athens. Good thing everybody speaks Greek--he only needs to learn one foreign language....."
Somehow, I doubt this scenario ever took place.
Rather, I think God took what Paul had been given, leading along the way in unseen ways, that, in the end, gave Paul everything he needed for his ministry. Maybe Paul's mom and dad weren't too pleased when he started playing with that Greek kid down the street, but that's where he heard stories he'd use in Athens. Maybe Paul's great-great-great grandfather happened to be in a place where he took up tent-making, and thereafter all the sons in the family were tent-makers.
Maybe I stress out too much about being sure that I cover all the bases my kids might ever possibly need. Maybe I need to relax a bit, and let God lead my kids in the paths HE has for them. Maybe I should trust God to make my kids' education what He wants it to be, though I can't see where we're going. (And, maybe, I need to read this post at least once a week! :)
