• Jul. 8, 2006 - If you are tired, GET A SLEEP STUDY!!!!
I've had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for 16+ years. I've been on sleeping pills of various types for nearly a year. I didn't snore (or not much)--my husband would know, I'm sure. (Not.)
Finally, a few weeks ago, my dr gave me an overnight pulse-oximeter test. They hook a thingy to your finger with a clothes-pin-like clip, and monitor your pulse overnight. What do you know? I had a number of pulse decelerations!
The next step was an overnight sleep study. I was waking 8 to 13 times per hour, with sleep apnea!!!!! No wonder I've been tired!
Then, they had to do another over-night sleep study, to calibrate the C-pap machine. It has varying pressures, and if not set properly for an individual, can cause over-oxidation the first night you use it. The machine felt awkward, and I felt like I was awake more because of it, but in the morning, I was more rested than I have been for a long, long time.
Now, I have to wait for the report, and the actual prescription, and then, hopefully, for the first time in years, I will be getting a decent night's sleep.
I just wish I had known it before.
(Please, if you think of me, do pray that it will do all I hope for. Thanks! :)
