I've been reading posts about "hard to get back into the school habit," and I know that's always been the case for us. I'm especially concerned about it this year, because the last part of last year we mostly unschooled, so it's been quite awhile since we've had a "standard" school day. My 10yo is responding very well to a point system at her tutoring/therapy. For every 500 or so points she earns, she gets a prize, like a light-up ball with tentacles. I'm thinking if I made it possible for them to earn about 100 points per day, at the end of the week, they would have 500 points, enough to get a prize. (This would only be for the first couple weeks, in order to help get good habits started.) Here's what I'm thinking about: being at the table on-time, ready to go 15 pts (maybe repeated after recess?) for each subject completed cheerfully 15pts for each subject completed in a "reasonable" time frame 5 pts (reasonable here depends on subject, handwriting 15 min, math 30-40 I might get a multi-color count-down clock to help with this) waiting patiently while I am helping their sister 15 pts staying in seat when I have to turn away for a minute 15 pts "homework" completed without reminders 15 points
I think I'm getting way over 100 pts. If anyone has done this, I'd love your insights.

The point system sounds great. Which is the positive approach. I have used something
similar in the opposite direction. One year I actually took privileges away when my son did not
take seriously his responsibilities as being a part of our family. But I like the way your line of thinking is much better than what I did. Let me know how it works for you. Whether 50, 100, or 150 points it's so uplifting to see your desire of loving your family shine through:)
