My Little Women and Men at Home

Aug. 3, 2006

The Countdown Begins!

I'm so excited!  On August 14th we officially start our homeschool.  I never would have thought that I would be this excited....but I am.

I am getting my lesson plan written out for the first 3 weeks.  After that I will do it monthly.  I figure this way I can adjust things easily if need be..such as we are going through our read alouds quicker than I thought or we want to throw something different in, etc.  Since I'm using A Beka for math and phonics/reading, the lessons are set out easily.  But plotting out our history journey through the "Little House" series is a little more of a challenge...but one I'm enjoying.

The other neat thing...dd6 is I think about as excited as me.  She was singing around the house the other day, "mommy's going to be my teacher..."  How sweet is that!?  It warms my heart to know that she is looking forward to this.

Here's to happy homeschooling!

The clock I bought at the teacher supply store is not actually a 'judy clock' brand, but similar. It is a nice yellow plastic clock, that you can set any time you want for practice/learning. ds now knows time on the hour. :)

No, I do not do anything with my youngest yet...he just turned 2. I *think*, though, that with his personality, that he is going to definitely have an opposing learning stle from my ds5. : ) Maybe...just maybe, I'll have 1 yet that will do better with those informal methods that I love. lol

I agree, Abeka has a bad 'rap' from many HS'ers who do not do 'traditional' curriculum. It will only be as formal (to a point, yes) as you make it. It (like anything (else) is certainly not for everyone, but for us, right now, it is so perfect. : )

I saw on a board a few days ago, where a mom was asking about Abeka, and she received this rely that Abeka could not be used by a classical homeschooler if they wanted to be, actually classical (to that effect, anyway). Well, ummm, classical is not what you use, it is how you use it...the model of the trivium. I would imagine that the same person would cry judgemental (!) if someone were to say well you cannot really be "Christian" classical if you are studying x, x, z... sheesh! Why do we place the authority on what WE use? Because it is our style, so we think it's the right thing for everyone? Hmmmm : )

Now there's a whole post eh? lol

Aug. 8, 2006 - A cheer for you and your dd6!

How do you say YEA! online w/o it seeming cheesy or unreal? I dunno. But I'm so glad she's excited. I'm planning two weeks at a time right now. It's seems overwhelming to do more than that. My dd6 is finally loving homeschool, now that we've added history, science, art and music. She loves math too! It's so encouraging and just makes your heart sing.
Blessings to you,
Jessica

Yes the Anne blog is for someone else. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.

This is my place to come and chat about God, my family, my life, and my homeschool endeavors. I am happily married, with two beautiful "Little Women" and a new "Little Man". We've been homeschooling for a year and are using a Classical Christian perspective and some of Charlotte Mason's principles as well.

Homeschooling classically can be different! It can be less hurried in the younger years! It can be Christian and focused on His word!
