Back from a refreshing weekend...

Posted in Daily Happenings

We had a wonderful time in the cabin.  Although we were only a stones throw away from my house, I really felt like we 'got away from it all!'  I went three days without being on the computer.   Believe it or not, I didn't go into convulsions or withdrawals.  My mind feels refreshed & renewed.  (Well, until I got home and had more than 300 emails to go through.)  But, I got to spend some much needed quality time with my DH and the kids.

Dh and I celebrated our 13th anniversary on Sunday. (our anniversary was on Monday.)  The kids stayed the night with my BIL & SIL.  We got to go out and eat at our favorite restaurant, the Chop House.  Yummy!!!

We were both jolted out of bed about 3am to the sound of hail on the roof.    Thunder was shaking our little cabin.  (Did I mention that our cabin was on top of a ridge on Bluff Mtn.?)

Have you ever been on top of a mountain in the middle of a storm?  It was very scary and awesome at the same time.  The lightening was literally right outside our window.  I have NEVER seen lightening like this before.

I counted the seconds between the lightening and the thunder… 1/1000…BOOM!  1/1000…BOOM!  1/1000…BOOM!  1/1000…2/1000…BOOM!   1/000…2/1000…3/1000…BOOM!  Finally, it started moving away. Then I was brave enough to move closer to the windows.  What an awesome sight!  Lightening bolts were everywhere!   There was even cloud to cloud lightening that bolted across the whole mountain chain.    I did manage to get a couple of shots of the lightening bolts.  :-D

The kids came up to the cabin and stayed with us on Monday and Tuesday night.  We had so much fun playing pool, (we had our very own pool table.) UNO, and Scene It.  I even had a productive school day on Tuesday.  (Tracy had to go to work, so the kids and I stayed up at the cabin,)

I spent each morning in the rocking chair on the front porch, a cup of coffee in hand, watching the sunrise.  I am not a morning person, so I very rarely witness the sunrise.  I can’t believe what an awesome sight I’ve been missing.  It was breathtaking.  The mountains were silhouetted against a pale orange background.  Then the sky grew a more intense orange color.  Then I saw tiny little flecks of light peeking over the mountain tops.  All of the sudden, POP, there was the sun.

I loved sitting there in anticipation for the birth of a new day.  I was in awe at this beautiful sight that God created.

I want to thank my BIL, SIL, MIL & FIL for getting the cabin for us for our anniversary.  We all had such a great time there.  And feel free to send us back up there anytime you want!  LOL

Glad I got to see you today. The pictures are even more awesome bigger. : ) Yes, I have been in a lightning storm on top of the ridge of a mountain. Only, I was walking. I must have been 10 or 12, and my parents, little sister, and I were backpacking from Newfound Gap to Mt. Leconte. We were up on the ridge and it got VERY dark, and we had a lightning/hail storm. We were the tallest objects on this ridge. OOoh, even scarier now. Then that night it was 27 degrees with a strong wind. The whole mountain was iced over the next morning, and we were soaked--all in June.
Looks like we could be in for some more doozies tonight.
Glad you had a great get-away. James and I go to cabins around here occasionally. You don't have to go far to get away from it all.
