Wash day

Posted in Life Lessons

The kids had fun learning what it was like to do laundry back in the "good 'ole days" when their Mamaw showed them how to do laundry with their great-grandmother's old Maytag Wringer Washer.  This is the same washer and washtubs  Mamaw helped do laundry with when she was a little girl.

Rachel, Sarah Beth & Jacob doing the laundry.

Jacob rinsing the clothes.

Everyone helps out:  Papaw, Mamaw,
Rachel, Sarah Beth & Jacob.

Wash, wring, rinse...

...wring, rinse, wring...

Mamaw is showing the girls how to hang
the laundry out on the line.

The fruits of their labor.

Monday was wash day,

Tuesday was for ironing,
Wednesday was mending,
Thursday was for shopping,
Friday was cleaning,
Saturday was baking,
Sunday was for church & rest.

Hey! What happened to your blog? The sidebar is fatter than the entry part.

My favorite aunt used to do her laundry with a wringer washer. Mainly because she just never got around to buying anything different. When my Girl 1 was about 8 or so, she was helping with the laundry and got her finger stuck in the wringer! How many children from the 90's can say that?

Your blog entries are always things of beauty! You are a superb photographer, as I'm sure you know!

- we do laundry almost like what you did, except we do not have maytag machines or any kind of machines. we would sit on a small tiny chair in front of a big basin of clothes and wash it by hand then rinse it and hang them to dry. i would usually spend ALL day on a saturday just to wash clothes. i still do that occassionally here when i have to treat stains and fragile clothings. your pictures brings back the old times, now that i am in america i am so spoiled..lol i think dishwasher, washing machines and dryer are my absolute american favorites! i love your blog, i like to take pictures too! ~ melanie <><
