Let the games begin!

Posted in Hoops News

Today the girls started their 3rd season of Upward Basketball.  I was so proud of them.  They have really improved their basketball skills over the last 3 years.  I just love their coaches this year.  Upward is such a wonderful program.

Rachel had her game first.  Her team is really good.  Since they don't really emphasize the score I'm not exactly sure what the final score was.  They don't let any team win by more than 10 pts. so they quit keeping score when it was 12 -2.  Rachel's team won.  I think Rachel scored at least 20 pts, if not more.  I am amazed at how coordinated she is.  And fast!  She takes that after me.  I used to play basketball years ago.

We noticed during the game she kept rubbing her cheek.  It looked like she had a huge bruise.  I went back to the locker room during half time to check on her.  She got hit in a scuffle for the ball and had a big shiner!  She never said anything to her coach until half time.

Honestly, I think she is quite proud of it.  Everyone kept asking her what happened to her eye... so she had to tell them how she got it fighting for the ball.

My sweet, shy Sarah Beth has really come out of her shell.  She is like a little shark.. she goes after that basketball with a vengeance.  And her long 'noodle arms' come in handy when rebounding.  The ball just kept landing in her hands.  LOL

I love how they introduce the kids just like the Lady Vols.  They play music, and the kids run through fog after they announce their names.  Here is Sarah Beth waiting for them to announce her name.  I just love the look of anticipation on her face.

And the thing that I love the most about Upward.  Putting Christ first.  Here they are praying before the game starts.

I am determined to learn how to take perfect action shots this year.. so hopefully I will have more pictures to share from their games.  (All the other ones are just a blur.)

That's quite a shiner! In this case a proud badge to wear. How neat that you have such a program for your girls to be part of.

I hope your new year is full of peace and happiness.

Hi Amy!

Glad you have had a great start to the season! Aria has improved quite a bit too. At least she isn't in a daze the whole game this year :). She was so proud of herself she actually stole the ball once and took it all the way down the court, and made a basket. Her team came from behind to win, it was an exciting game.

Missed you at mom's night last night, I was hoping you could make it. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow at b ball.

Amy
