I was thrilled to be partnered up with Math Mammoth. I have been searching for a new math curriculum because I wasn't really happy with what we were using. Math is not one of my stronger subjects and I have a difficult time trying to explain it. Maria Miller, the author of Math Mammoth, has developed some great products the make it very easy to teach math. That makes teaching math enjoyable. Yes, I said "ENJOYABLE!" Not only for me, but for my children.
Here are descriptions of the items I reviewed as described on the website.
Blue Series PackageIn this package, you get all 19 of Math Mammoth Blue Series books for the low price of $2.50 per book, or $47 all in all. The books contain all in over 970 lesson and practice pages of quality math teaching materials.
Math Mammoth Blue Series books are self-teaching worktexts, containing both explanations and exercises. They are designed to be very easy to teach from, explaining and practicing mathematical concepts first (usually with visual models), and then allowing for sufficient and varied practice.
Each book concentrates on a few connected math topics, thus forming a very coherent math learning system. All the books in this series have a blue cover.
Math Mammoth Blue Series books are not tied to grade levels but can be used across several grades, as review, in remedial teaching, or in various circumstances.
The 19 Math Mammoth books included are:

Math Mammoth Grade 3-A Worksheets Collection This book contains 67 worksheets for the first half of 3rd grade topics. Each sheet is one page, concentrating on one topic.
These aren't your 'run-of-the-mill' math worksheets. Each sheet in these two workbooks has been "hand-crafted" (not script-made), with varying problems that both emphasize understanding of concepts and practice computation, with variable word problems.
However, please note that these worksheets only contain problems, and not explanations of the mathematics. This is not a textbook but a workbook. However, the problems are very varying and laid out more 'dense', so this book is not really comparable to 'grocery-store' math workbooks.
The collection 3-A covers
- Addition
- Subtraction
- Place Value
- Multiplication Concept
- Multiplication Tables
The 3-A worksheets start out with fairly simple mental addition and subtraction problems within 0-100 and accompanying word problems. Then comes place value practice with thousands (within 0-10,000), and adding/subtracting these four-digit numbers. Rounding and estimating are the last topics in this first segment and a few review worksheets follow.
The next segment is all about multiplication concept and practicing the times tables. There are worksheets for all aspects of the concept itself-such as multiplication 'both ways' (how it is commutative), or on number line, or multiplying by zero and one.
There is a separate worksheet for each of the multiplication tables. They are in a specific order with the easiest ones first. Each table builds upon the facts already studied. Little tricks to help memorization are also explained. The practice worksheets also feature a multiplication chart that has only those cells empty that the student has studied up to that point - and the rest of the facts are 'blocked out'.
Filling the chart after every few tables gives the student a lot of assurance in his abilities to memorize all the facts, because the ones still blocked out do not seem to be so many.
There are also two worksheets about multiplying 2-digit numbers, marked with an asterisk, since I consider these to be advanced for 3rd grade.
Math Mammoth Grade 3-B Worksheets Collection
This workbook is a continuation of the Grade 3-A workbook. It has 65 worksheets and covers the latter half of 3rd grade topics. Each problem sheet is one page, concentrating on one topic.
These aren't your 'run-of-the-mill' math worksheets. Each page in the workbook has been "hand-crafted", with varying problems that both emphasize understanding of concepts and practice computation, with variable word problems.
The collection 3-B covers
- Division
- Geometry
- Fractions and Decimals
- Measuring and Money
- Graphs
After learning multiplication earlier on 3th grade, division is a major topic in the latter half. There are worksheets about the concept of division, a lot of emphasis on the connection between multiplication and division, just division practice, remainder, and dividing by 10 or 100.
Long division is only touched briefly in two sheets; these may be given to the advanced students.
Geometry section concentrates on learning about various polygons, exploring line symmetry, and exploring area of rectangles.
Fraction worksheets revolve around visual representations ('pies'). Almost all problems in this section are based on pictures.
For measuring, the collection includes worksheets for both customary system and metric system.
Time worksheets concentrate on reading the clock. You can easily make more clock reading worksheets at www.homeschoolmath.net/worksheets/clock.php
The last section includes a few miscellaneous topics and problems about charts and graphs.

Math Mammoth Grade 4-A Worksheets Collection
This workbook covers the first half of 4th grade topics. Each problem sheet is one page, concentrating on one topic.
These aren't your 'run-of-the-mill' math worksheets. Each page in the workbook has been "hand-crafted", with varying problems that both emphasize understanding of concepts and practice computation, with variable word problems.
4-A collection covers
- Addition
- Subtraction
- Place Value
- Multiplication
- Measuring
In book 4-A, the first section of worksheets deals with addition and subtraction, place value, and money problems including simple discount situations.
The connection between addition/subtraction is emphasized extensively in these sheets. Several worksheets deal with missing addend problems that are solved with subtraction, also introducing equations of the type x + 100 = 200.
The section on multiplication first briefly reviews multiplication concept and multiplication tables. Then the main focus is on multiplying in parts (using distributive property) when multiplying mentally, and on the multiplication algorithm (in columns) up to multiplying 3-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers.
There are lots of opportunities for estimation, and for practicing order of the operations.
The workbook has 57 worksheet pages. You will also get a 18-page answer key file.

Math Mammoth Grade 4-B Worksheets Collection
is a workbook covering the latter half of 4th grade topics. Each problem sheet is one page, concentrating on one topic.
These aren't your 'run-of-the-mill' math worksheets. Each page in the workbook has been "hand-crafted", with varying problems that both emphasize understanding of concepts and practice computation, with variable word problems.
The collection 4-B covers
- Division
- Geometry
- Fractions and Decimals
- Graphs
- Data Analysis
First, there are some worksheets for division concept, as a review from 3rd grade. Long division and remainder are in focus, thus the many various sheets for these.
To study factors (or divisors) of numbers between 0 and 100, there are charts for students to fill in.
In geometry, students are learning about acute, obtuse, and right angles, how to classify triangles, about various polygons and how to draw them. They study congruent shapes and how shapes are transformed (flip - turn - slide). Lastly, there are sheets for area of rectangles and perimeter.
Fraction topics are still largely dealt with the help of pictures so as to encourage understanding of fractions instead of relying on mechanical following of rules. There are sheets for fractions and mixed numbers, adding/subtracting those, plus equivalent fractions and comparing them.
Decimals sheets only deal with simple topics of tenths and hundredths, and adding or subtracting them.
The last section has some probability and statistics problem sheets.
The workbook has 64 worksheet pages. You will also get a 24-page answer key file.

Amy Beth's review -You really get a lot for your money when you purchase Math Mammoth. Since it is an ebook , one can print out only the sheets as needed, and they can be used for multiple children in your family. More for your money. What more could a homeschool family ask for! We have a copy machine so I have printed a master copy and placed it in a notebook. Then I just copy the sheets as I need them.
These workbooks are sooooo easy to use. Since they are sectioned off by subject it is easy to find the exact worksheet that I need. All of the explanations are in the text so there is no need for a separate teacher's book. The directions are easy enough that my girls could figure it out on their own. The usage of pictures and drawing in the exercises helped my children to really understand the concepts. It was like a light came on. They actually understand what they are doing. The worksheets are great to introduce new skills or brush up on old ones.
For the first time since we have started homeschooling, I actually enjoy teaching math and my girls are begging me to do more worksheets. I definately plan on purchasing their other items to use with my younger son to introduce him to math the right way.
In addition to using the workbooks, I have also reaped a wealth of information from Maria's newsletter and Homeschool Math website.
