Faith

Posted in Life Lessons

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence not seen." Hebrews 11:1

For the last two weeks, every time we drive through Pigeon Forge, Sarah Beth keeps hollering, "Mommy, there is Pizza Planet! Can we eat there mommy, please?" Now when I look out the window this is what I see.

This is the new T.G.I. Fridays in Pigeon Forge. Now I admit, the sign is a little funky, and I could see how a kid might mistake it for pizza, but my dd can read! So, every time we drive by here, I wait for the debate to begin.

"Mommy, there is Pizza Planet!! Can we please go and eat there?"

"Honey, that isn't Pizza Planet. It is T.G.I. Fridays!"

So, the other night, we ate dinner at K.F.C. in Pigeon Forge. On our way home we are getting ready to pass T.G.I. Fridays. Dh is driving and I am looking out the window and bracing myself for the declaration when all of the sudden, guess what I see right next to T.G.I. Fridays?!

Yes!!! THAT is Pizza Planet!!!!

Ooops.  Let me tell you, I don't think that I will ever be able to live it down. This building used to be LazerPort, and do you think I paid any attention when they changed the sign? Sarah Beth wanted to know why I didn't see it with the eyes in the back of my head. I told her that they were looking on the other side of the street!

I am sure you can guess what came next...

"SEE MOMMY!!! I TOLD YOU SO!!! I TOLD YOU THERE WAS A PIZZA PLANET!!!"

So, I did what any good Christian person would do.

"Yes, dear. You were right. I was wrong. I am sorry I didn't believe you."

What came next totally shocked me!

"Mommy, sometimes people don't believe things because they don't see them."

Wow.

"Yes, that happens sometimes." Then I asked her. "What about Jesus? We can't see him. Why should we believe in him?" (After I said it, I really wanted to take it back, because I wasn't really sure if I could explain that to them.)

"Because the Bible says so."

Wow.

"What is that called when you believe in something you can't see?"

Immediately she said, "FAITH!"

Imagine, learning such a valuable lesson from my 7yo daughter. (I am amazed at how many times God speaks to me through my children.) She made it sound so simple. The Bible says it! It is true! Sometimes I have a hard time believing something unless I see it for myself. (Kinda like not believing Sarah Beth when she said there was a Pizza Planet.) Imagine the promises of God I could be missing out on because I don't believe they are for me. But He said it. It is true. I just have to believe it! I have to have FAITH!

That, my friend, made it worth all the humiliation!

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence not seen.

Faith is the cancellation of doubt, faith will bring you out.

Faith is stepping on nothing, and landing on something."

My kids do that to me all the time. I think they're not getting it when I first tell or teach it to them, but then it'll come out when I least expect it. God's Word is true! When He says His Word will not return unto Him void but that it will accomplish that which it set out to do and prosper in the thing whereunto it was sent, He means it!!!!!! =) (BTW, that was my paraphrase of Isaiah 55:11)
