I Believe to Teach a Child Is to Touch God
Oct. 31, 2008 - Hello, Fellow BookBaggers!

It's been a bit crazy here. My motherboard croaked!!! I'm using the laptop belonging to my wonderful hubby, Bob. I didn't realize that my fingers were so big and that my eyesight was so bad!!! My tech tells me all will be well tomorrow. Actually, things are pretty grand today! I've gone back to my old way of writing with paper and pencil and it's been comforting. Less distractions too! I knew God would bless this mess.  :-)

All is well with the world of book bagging. However, I need a burning question answered. How can I provide more middle school and upper level activities?

My artist series that shows up in the monthy Book Bags can be used for older children. Liz and I entertwine higher level activities throughout the Book Bags and ideas for extension, but I know there's still a need out there.

Along with elementary school, I taught middle school, high school and some college. (I actually taught teachers using picture books. Never underestimate those highly illustrated quick reads.) I know what's required for those levels and how to design fun activities for them. Still, I don't know what the homeschool families need. Do they want the research already laid out and extension activities added? Book studies? What's missing when you go looking for a good priced, quality resource to add to your curriculum? Please get back to me. I'm ready to create!!

To all of you, enjoy this wonderful day! This is the day that the Lord has made!!!

Rejoicing!

Donna (motherboardless but contented)

Welcome to Homeschoolblogger and to the world of homeschool curriculum producing. I love what I've seen of your stuff so far. The Papa Pablo's Pizza product looks like so much fun.

I wanted to invite you to the Lilliput Station Online Christmas Party which starts tomorrow. If you'd like to contribute a prize for our doorprize drawings, we'd be thrilled to add you to our list of donors. Or, just stop by and join the fun.

I'm editing this post to add that my motherboard went down in May, so I can totally relate. It's very inconvienient, but it's such a blessing to have SOME form of a backup.

I'm not sure of the answer to this but I wanted to say that I'm using the book bags for my younger boys and my 6th grade daughter enjoys many of the activities too. I would love it if there were more in the book bags for the big kids. Maybe something like story starters on the topics might be good. A study on advanced picture books might be good.

Sometimes we forget that the big kids still like to do fun things. Sometimes it seems that the fun is missing in older kids activities. My dd will sometimes look at her younger siblings papers and then see hers which looks plain and boring. We always try to find things which will be on her level but still fun and colorful.

To answer your other question I do like the research already done for me when I buy a product. It sure saves time.

We started November book bag last week, a little early since one of my sons was doing a project on the Wright Brothers. Keep up the good work, we are enjoying these activities!

I create curriculum materials for homeschool families. It's a very fulfilling job, but I long for more personal contact. In this blog, I hope to communicate with women who are working diligently to provide their children with the best education possible. I want to learn, and I want to be of any assistance that I can. I crave fellowship. :-)
