Alamance Battlefield

Posted in Our Homeschool

Today Jason and I, along with our friends Christie and Nathaniel, went on a field trip to Alamance Battlefield in Burlington, NC.  Every October they have something called "Colonial Week", where interpreters demonstrate a variety of things from the lives of backcountry farmers during the Colonial period.  Alamance is the site of a battle between the Regulators and the Governor's militia, about 10 years prior to the start of the American Revolution. The Regulators were farmers who were fed up with the excessive taxes and corruption of those ruling the British colony.

It was a beautiful fall day, and the boys really enjoyed themselves.

I love this place - it holds a special place in my heart because it was our first "official" field trip the year we started homeschooling. And the nicest family was there, I remember especialy this golden yellow curly headed girl that laughed and smiled so much I just knew I had to get to know her and her family. her name was Sarah and her Mom was Beth but I had the hardest time remembering their last name....!! Hard to believe that was 11 years ago! We planned to go last Tuesday but last minute changes with some friends called us away so we missed it - maybe next year! I think E will enjoy it more next year, too.
BTW - beautiful pics! - new camera or get the old one fixed?
