We've spotted our first Hummingbird for this year! So far I think it is just one since we have never seen 2 in the same place at one time but you never know :) We pulled out our British Columbia Birds book by Lone Pine Publishing and there are only a few Hummingbirds listed in it so making a very amateur guess to go along with our very blurry photo *grin* and what we could remember from memory we have come to the conclusion that perhaps it is a male Rufous Hummingbird (Selasphorus rufus). The kids have been keeping a watchful eye out to see if he returns so that maybe mama can get a better picture. LOL.
that reminds me I need to get our feeder out...although the hummingbirds don't tend to come out until my sweet peas and morning glories bloom....I read through a couple of pages...Some really good ideas!! Thanks
I haven't seen any hummers here yet this spring, but we had quite a few last year. We have ruby throated hummingbirds here. Now that I've seen yours, I must go mix up some nectar and get that feeder put out for them!
I enjoyed your blog!
What a wonderful blog! I sure hope you decide to submit a post for the Carnival of Canadian Home Educators. I've moved the Carnival to it's own blog. You can check it out here - http://canadianhomeeducatorscarniva.blogspot.com/

Our first little "hummer" came by this week ( 4th week in April) .I thought I saw one last weekend so we put out our feeder and the kids and I got some hanging baskets of flowers to entice him back. We saw him up close today, but I did not have my camera ready! Great picture - thanks for sharing! MeritK @ Creative Learning
