Make up your mind!

Yesterday it was beautiful and in the low 70's and today it is in the 50's. I was hoping for a warm Halloween but no such luck. I should have bought the warm fuzzy costumes, then we would have been guaranteed a warm night. We have a Fall Celebration at the church-- free hot dogs, games, prizes, etc. Last night we had play practice for 3 hours. Next Friday is opening night. I think it is going to be great. We are doing American Girls-- Felicity, Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly. Reed is Kirsten's friend Marta (who dies *weep*) and Sydney is her cousin Anna. Spenser is Molly's brother Ricky. Jason is the father in Felicity and Kirsten. We had a really great service Sunday morning. The pastor has been doing a sermon series on prayer, and he spoke about the need for us to be vulnerable and share our needs with other Christians so that we can truly pray for one another. You know, other than-- Aunt Bertha's having surgery on her big toe.
So during the invitation, he asked people to turn to each other and tell something that they could pray for-- and it really happened. It wasn't just perfunctory answers either-- there was real sharing and praying (and crying) happening.
That is not easy for me. I can't open up very easily. My friend came to me and I didn't really say anything meaningful, but then I saw the pastor's wife at the altar and went to her and we were able to be open with each other. I shared some real financial needs we have that I don't feel like I can share with the church-- because I don't want it to seem like we are asking the church for anything-- know what I mean? And she shared a personal prayer request as well.
Anyway I am probably not conveying it very well, but it was genuine and exciting and people were talking about it Sunday night-- which is always a good sign.
So I am going to ask you to pray as well-- we are renting a house from church members (pastors-- don't ever do this!!!) and it is literally falling down around us. (It rained really hard this past weekend and a chunk of ceiling fell in the laundry room.) We need desperately to move and we have no money. It seems impossible to our human minds, but I know God can provide. Please pray for wisdom for us and that God will provide a way. |
