Dear Me (1991)

You look so pretty in your wedding dress.  I love your spiral perm and fake nails.  It's cute how you practiced wearing them for a few weeks so they wouldn't feel awkward at the wedding.

I know it seems like a good idea to have a pretty song sung right after you and Jason light the unity candle, but, honestly, standing there for four and a half minutes with a smile plastered on your face is not really much fun for anyone.

Oh, and sweetie, eat something at your reception.  You paid good money for that food.  But if you forget, or get too nervous, it'll be ok.  Miss Rose's granddaughters are back there packing you a little cooler full of treats right now.  And Domino's delivers to the hotel.

By the way, War of the Roses is not a good movie to watch on your honeymoon.  I know its on cable and it's free and all with the room, but, really, I can think of better ways to spend your time.

Don't forget your new black shoes when you leave tomorrow.

Tell Jason not to forget his wallet (but not in a naggy way.  You'll perfect that later.)  If he forgets, it's ok.  When the nice policeman sees the "Just Married" sign on the back of your car, he'll chuckle and let you go.

Most of all, remember this feeling of utter joy and expectation that you have on the verge of your married life.  You will have many, many happy years ahead of you.  There will be times when you will be sad and hurt and even miserable, but you will come through it together --stronger-- on the other side.  You may spend the first year of marriage contemplating murder, since you don't believe in divorce.  But you have good times ahead of you.  Many many broken down cars.  Leaky roofs.  Unpaid bills.  Sure.  But also gorgeous children.  (by the way your firstborn will be ok, and will go home from the NICU after just a week.  Don't panic.)  The fulfillment of doing ministry together.  Passion.  Friendship.  Love.

God has truly brought you two together and will see you through the bad times.  Be nicer to your mother-in-law, she can't help how she is.  Have frequent and passionate s*x with your husband.  It's free and fun.  And he needs it.  He also needs and deserves your respect.  He is a great man and will be the love of your life for many years to come.

Love,
Me (2007)
