Temptation Bible Study for Kids

Some of my older children moved into the youth group, so now I am regrouping (ha!) and trying to figure out what to do with the kids I have left. They are relatively young-- Reed is the oldest and she will be 9 next month. The rest are 4-7. They are all girls. Hopefully God will grow the group and we can divide the preschoolers and the older children, but He will also need to provide another teacher. I have been begging for help for over a year. Grrr. Anyway-- last week we watched Larry Boy and the Rotten Apple, which is about temptation. So this week the follow-up activities were all about temptation. (We also practiced a skit for Father's Day for Sunday.) We had a tent set up in the room and it had one piece of candy per child in it. I let them look and told them they could have it now, but if they waited ot would be better. About halfway through the lesson, I added another piece per child and said the same thing. Two of them caved and took their share. At the end, I gave everyone who waited an extra piece of chocolatey goodness and talked about the temptation to take the candy instead of waiting. (Completely over their heads maybe, but maybe not.) We also played a game where they had to walk across the room and the other kids had ball pit balls (you could use socks or newspaper balls or anything lightweight.) They threw the "temptation" balls at them and tried to hit them. Then I took a sheet and called it The Word of God and used it to deflect the balls and stay away from "temptation." (Except the one Reed threw over the sheet and bonked me on the head with )Last we played Red Light Green Light, but instead of saying stop and go or red and green, we said obey and temptation (which sounds bad when you say them together quickly and probably subliminally gave them the exact opposite message I was aiming for.) In other news, I listed some books on ebay that we are finished with, and happily sold one already. I haven't had time to list since Novemeber, but I made myself do a few. Every little bit helps, especially since I still have a few books to buy for next year. (Fallacy Detective, Latina Christiana II, Latin's Not So Tough Level 3, and something I am forgetting. |
