I have never been a big family tree/geneology person. My brother has been working on it for several years and really enjoys finding things like faded copies of old death certificates and cemetery records. I, personally, don't get excited about these things, but to each his own. However, as I age, I do find myself wishing I knew more about my family. I wish I had paid attention more and written things down. For example, I heard that my straight-laced supremely Southern Great Grandmother (affectionately called Mama Fell by everyone-- her last name was Fell) was a bootlegger. That fact astounds me now, and I wish I had asked her about it. I can't go back and do things differently, but I can do things differently with my kids. My husband found this really great site called Geni that is like geneology for dummies. It could not be easier to fill in what you know, add pictures if you like, and then invite other people in your family to join along and fill in what they know. No one can view your tree except people in your tree, so it is a secure place to share this information with your family. And that works for me!
