WFMW Bedtime

Posted in WFMW

My kids love to dawdle at bedtime.  They are masterful at extending bedtime by an hour or three.  They know all the tricks.  And when we tell them "teeth and jammies" which is the signal to start getting ready for bed, they clamor for snacks and drinks and computer time and all manner of things.

So here's my new trick.  Announce storytime is in 15 minutes.  Then start reading at the 15 minute mark, regardless of who has finished or not.  They will scramble to finish and come hear the story.

I am sorry to say this will not work unless you have more than one child and at least one is  fairly compliant-- unless you don't mind reading to yourself at first.  :)

Great tip! My kids LOVE to be including in reading time. They would definitely come running (unless they are out watching a movie and can't hear me start reading - but then that would be a little silly). :)

I agree this is a genius idea! But then, I'm pretty used to you having genius ideas since you're, you know, a genius and all.

That's a great idea! I have posted a nightly routine tip, but adding this aspect will make it even better.

Aug. 29, 2007 - what a novel idea

Posted by Karen @ Simply A Musing Blog

No pun intended, since I wouldn't read a novel to my toddler, but this is a GREAT idea. Just last night, I had to contend with "just one more drink, just one more trip to the bathroom, I'm hungry, etc. etc."...I'll try this tonight. :)
