"Labor" Day Meme

Posted in Memes

How long were your labors?

Kid #1, 3 hours (I was shocked-- especially since we lived an hour and a half from the hospital.  Funny thing is, that night, the drive only took 40 minutes LOL.  I honestly thought I was in early  labor, and my husband had to force me to get in the car.  I wanted to shower.  My contraction were 5 minutes apart and we were an hour and a half from the hospital, and I wanted to wash my hair.  Clearly my priorities were in order. )
Kid #2, 4 hours (She was late and big-- as in 10 lbs 11 oz.-- so they induced)
Kid #3, none-- scheduled c-section
Kid #4, none- scheduled c-section

How did you know you were in labor?

Kid #1, water breaking.  Very strong contractions, 5 minutes apart.  Apparently I started at the end.
Kid #2, I was induced
Kid #3, c-section
Kid #4, c-section

Where did you deliver?

With all of them, at a hospital.  The first 3 in NC; the last one in GA.

Drugs?

#1-- none (and he was 10 lbs!!)
#2-- a shot of something like Demoral-- didn't help much (remember she was 10 lbs 11 oz.)
#3-- spinal for the c-section (nice)
#4- epidural for the c-section (didn't work 100%-- ouch!) To clarify:  there was one spot in the incision that was burning like fire.  The anesthesiologist (who was a friend of mine in high school) gave me something else to help.  Still, I liked the spinal much better.  :)

C-section?

Yes-- numbers 3 and 4 were breech.  Sydney (#3) was a gymnast-- she was breech, then she wasn't then she was.  So they scheduled a c-section, then tried to induce, then sent me home, then brought me back to induce, at which time she was breech again.  Since this time, the cord was under her, they did the c-section.   Fun, fun, fun.

Who delivered?

I had great doctors all 4 times!

your sydney was just like my aidan.. a total gymnast!! he was scheduled for section then they sent me home cause he wasn't breech and said to wait .. tried a ripening technique that was AWFUL and no help.. he was over due...then went in for a second ripening gel... but he was breech again so they scheduled my section for that day by the time they opened me up he wasn't breech anymore!! kids are funny they come when they are ready... my first was a breeze with the epidural.

So, I finally find someone else with the dubious pleasure of the epidural not working so well on a c-section...do you find that people don't believe you about that?

Oh, and something else in common...multiple large babies!

Your priorities were straight. I remember the doctor telling me in the office to go straight to the hospital to be induced. I went home, ate dinner, packed a bag, and walked into the hospital about 2 hours later. I can't imagine my drugs not working and feeling a c-section. They couldn't have given you more? I had spinals with all 3, so don't know much how the epi would work. Good grief. I just can't imagine.
