Quick Take
7 Quick Takes Friday sponsored by Conversion Diary

  1. We are reading Jotham's Journey for Advent.  We love it!  We were hooked from the very first day!  Last year I wanted to use it, but it was going for over $100 because it was out of print.  This year my friend loaned it to me, but you can buy it now for $6 or $8 because they republished it.  Hopefully they will also republish the next two.
  2. I love Spenser's Apologia science this year.  It is very user-friendly.  We had fun in lab this week making a nail magnetic using electricity.
  3. I don't like the Dinah Zike book I am using for Sydney and Reed's science.  We are doing Sound and Light and I am not impressed.  I also bough the tools and technology book, but I think I would rather look for something else.  What do you recommend for a 5th grader?  We already did Christian Kids Explore Biology and Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space.
  4. Spenser is working the spotlight for An O. Henry Christmas. this weekend and next.  It has two stories-- Gift of the Magi  and The Last Leaf. Both are great.  You can read The Last Leaf  here.  It is a musical, and the music is very pretty.
  5. The UPS man brought 6 packages to my door on Tuesday.  I shopped online last Friday instead of going out.  I am trying to get stuff wrapped, but I really hate wrapping!
  6. Reed is going out of town this weekend to watch her friend compete in a clogging pageant.  I wish she had a cell phone LOl.  (So does she, but she;s only 10.)
  7. I saw my high school English teacher last night at the O. Henry show.  I was just telling my friend the day before what great English teachers I had in high school.

Gift of the Magi

The Last Leaf

I was wrapping today too. I have to get package out to out of town relatives by tomorrow (parcel post deadline.) Did you do Christian Kids study Chemistry yet? We're doing it this year and enjoying it. Much of it (experiment wise anyway) follows well with my high schooler doing Apologia Chemistry so we've been able to "share" a little. Just a thought.
