Hospital Report

Posted in PTT

Sydney did great and somehow got 3 new teddy bears out of the deal LOL. Reed gave her one to take to the hospital, a male nurse in the pre-op dept gave her a bear with the hospital name on it, and the lady that registered her yesterday came to the post-op room and gave her a purple bear with a Barbie balloon. She racked up LOL.

I felt so blessed today.  Do you see what having God in your life-- in every minute and every detail of your life--can do?  Your 4 year old has surgery on her arm and you feel blessed.
  • Because my mom took off work to keep my other 3 kids and the 2 that I babysit.
  • Because our senior pastor was there to pray with her, even though the associate pastor-- her dad-- was right there.
  • Because what we thought would be thousands of dollars of medical debt is covered by the church's liability policy.
  • Because my friend the anesthesiologist (who has 3 kids) was so great with her.  He explained everything by putting a mask on her teddy bear and making him go to sleep.
  • Because my friend the nurse saw that as soon as they wheeled her down the hall, my calm courageous facade crumbled.  And she stayed with me and talked about childbirth and tonsils and homecoming.
  • Because my 8 year secretly loves her sister and worried about her all day.
  • Because my 11 year old fixed everyone breakfast while I was gone.
  • Because the 8 and 11 year old managed to do the little bit of schoolwork I left for them without complaining.
  • Because my 4 year old is incredibly brave and she trusts us so much that she went peacefully into the OR without a moment's hesitation.
  • Because she is so charming that everyone championed her in the hospital, and even the lady that registered her yesterday came to see her and brought her a present.
  • Because she shared her new purple teddy bear with her little sister Macy when she got home-- even though she really didn't want to.  She wanted to put him on the shelf and admire him and protect him.
  • Because she shared her other new teddy with her friend Haley.
Those last few qualify her for the Pass the Torch award in my book :)

Pass the Torch Tuesday

In case you missed it yesterday Sydney broke her arm.  While we were at the hospital ER, my friend came and took my other 3 kids with her.  They went to Chuck E Cheese for supper and then went to her square dance class.

When they went to Chuck E Cheese, Spenser and Reed played games and won 211 tickets.  They used all of them to get prizes for Sydney.  I was very touched!  They are really great kids!  (And Sydney was very pleased with her prizes)

Be sure to check out the other Pass the Torch posts!

Pass the Torch Tuesday

My daughter Reed is a special kid.  All my kids are, but I wanted to highlight some of the nice things she has done.  Nothing eartch-shattering or Nobel Prize-worthy, but definitely Pass-the-Torch-worthy.  She is the kind of person that looks out for others and cares about their feelings.  When she was in a play this summer, they did a praise song at the end of the play, using "tamborines" that they had made in crafts.  When they were performing, she and a smaller girl reached for the same tamborine-- apparently one of theirs ended up on the wrong side of the stage.  Reed reached it first, but immediately handed it to the younger child.  Most kids would have taken it for themselves.  The director saw what happened and handed her the other one and it was not a big deal, but I noticed.  And my mom noticed.  And I was proud.

Last night we were at a worship service for the theatre/art school.  She and Spenser are in a handbell class and they were performing.  At the end, the director asked Reed and his son to take up a love offering.  As it turned out, Reed had several dollars and coins in her basket, and the little boy didn't get any.  So she dumped some (most) of hers in his basket.  It really didn't matter since it all went to the same place, but it mattered to the little boy.  And I was very proud of her.

I am very proud of who she is and how she treats others.
