13 Reasons I Don't Want to do a Thursday Thirteen

Posted in Thursday 13

  1. I can't think of anything clever to write about.
  2. I have a headache.
  3. I need to use the bathroom.
  4. I should go to bed.
  5. I ought to clean my house since the electrician is coming soon.  As it stands, he would need a bulldozer to get past the laundry, school stuff, and general clutter and actually find the outlets that don't work.
  6. My husband and I just had a fight.
  7. I ate 2 brownies after the fight, even though I am on a diet.  That'll show him, huh?
  8. We had science lab today and I think my blood pressure is a tad high.  11 kids, 3 moms, 6 experiments + snacks.  Did I mention my head hurts?
  9. We had 2 play practices and a weight loss meeting to be at tonight.  Doesn't really affect blogging, except for the whole stress, blood pressure, headache thing.
  10. I'm not sure anyone reads this anyway.  Hello *tap, tap* Is this thing on?
  11. I can't ever figure out the TT code, and so I just add a  link and a header.  I am afraid they will catch me and I will be banned from the TT site.
  12. Something on the TT  page makes my browser shut down.  Every time.  Grrr.
  13. I just tried to go to the TT page, and my browser shut down and i had to retype this whole stupid post.

Check out all the great  Thursday Thirteen posts here.

13 Best Sales I've Made on eBay

  1. I bought a box of  paperback books from a yard sale (all the same series) for $5.  I lotted them up and sold for over $125.
  2. I bought a Christine Foley sweater for $1 and sold it for $77.
  3. I bought a case of 60 Recordable photo Frames for about $1 each and sold them for $8- $12 each.
  4. 32 nursing bras for $4 each and they sold for $18- $22 each.
  5. A pair of 25 cent Gap jeans that I sold for $12
  6. About 40 pair of Disney Pajamas that I bought for $3 each and sold for $12-$16 per pair
  7. Leap pad books, leap pads and whatever the one for babies is called-- bought on clearance after Christmas (70% off) and sold the next year for almost full retail.
  8. GE Mist Hot Rollers bought for $2 and sold for $50
  9. Plus sized maternity clothes, bought on ebay, worn for 9 months and sold for what I paid for them.
  10. Ditto my girls' Gymboree dresses-- I buy them used, we wear them a year (or 2) and then I can usually sell them for what I paid for them.
  11. Dale Earnhardt Jr Boxers-- I bought about a dozen pair at the Dollar Tree and sold them for $8 each.
  12. Beach Towels-- one year I bought a bunch on clearance for $2 and sold them for $8 to $12 each.
  13. Vaseline Hair Tonic-- you know the stuff that makes old men's hair greasy?  Well they discontinued it.  And my MIL found 10 bottles at Big Lots for $1.50 each.  (Yes I sent her on a treasure hunt in Florida) And I sold them for $100 (total, not each)!
Now before you go buying up your local Goodwill, I could make 13 Thursday Thirteens about the things that didn't sell on ebay.  But still, it can be a profitable home business if you can stand the piles of stuff all over your house, LOL.

13 Favorite books from My Childhood

1.  < Never Tease a Weasel which I am thrilled to learn has been rereleased!!

"You can knit a kitten mittens and perhaps that cat would purr.
You could fit a fox with socks that exactly match his fur.
You could make a goat a coat with a collar trimmed in mink;
or give a pig a wig in a dainty shade of pink.

"But never tease a weasel; this is very good advice.
A weasel will not like it. And teasing isn't nice!"

2. Donkey Donkey about a donkey who didn't like his ears, so he changed them like the other farm animal and got hurt or mocked or knocked the farmer off the ladder.  So he met a girl donkey who had ears like him and decided his were ok.

3.  Santa Makes a Change   Santa tries on different (international) costumes and finally settles on the one we are used to.

4.  Christopher's Parade Beautifully illustrated with few words.

5. Just Right about a farmer who wants to sell his farm but decided to keep it.

6.  The Pink Dress by Anne Alexander.  I read this one in 6th grade.  My mom and aunt both read it in the same school library (probably the same copy, LOL).  Now it is high dollar on ebay or else I would own it.

7.  All the Little House books, over and over and over.  I remember being in my grandmother's front yard and when the high school marching band  (drum corps) was practicing down the road, I was sure the Indians were coming to get me!

8.  Are You There God, it's Me Margaret?   Read this in 6th grade with all the other girls.  The boys weren't allowed to check it out LOL.  We formed our own PTS club, of course.

9.  That was then, this is now by S.E. hinton.  Still haven't gotten over this one.  So sad, I cried for hours.

10. Caddie Woodlawn   I loved that book.  I think I read all the Newberry books in our library.

11.  From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler  My son read this one recently and enjoyed it.

12.  Go Dog Go  I loved the picture where the one puppy is awake in the bed and everyone else is asleep.

13.  When I was a little older, (maybe Middle school which we called junior high LOL) everything by Emilie Loring!

Thirteen Presents We Got for Christmas

1.  I got a new cell phone with a better camera and an MP3 player.  Woot!   I also got a new curio cabinet.  Hubby has to assemble it though.

2.  My aunt gave me some Philosophy Cinnamon Buns shampoo, Cinnabon bubble bath, and J.A.S.O.N. Gingerbread Body Scrub.  yum!  I smell good!!

3.  Spenser got a FLY computer pen that he loves.  You can even print a Saxon math test on the fly paper and it will grade it.  It is amazing.

4.  Reed got 39 books for Christmas.  Lots of American Girl books, the whole set of Anne of Green Gables, a Narnia collection, and a slew of others.

5.  Sydney and Macy loved their hand-me-down Game Boys,

6.  Jason got a new monitor for his work computer.  He needed it so badly-- the one he had was awful and blurry and gave me a headache when I tried to use it.

7.   Lots of babies-- Reed got a Kirsten (American Girl) doll, Sydney got Baby Alive and Big Sister Dora, and Macy got Fairy Dora and the Little Mommy toldder doll.  Plus the younger 2 each got a soft baby with a little animal that is adorable.

8.  Games-- Twister dance DVD, Disney Scene-it, Homeschoolopoly and a Star Wars Trivial Pursuit dvdgame.  Plus they got Chicken Little, Cinderella, Narnia, Danny Phantom,  and Eragon for Game Boy.  (I buy them used on ebay most of the time, although I got Eragon on Amazon new, but I had a $10 gift certificate.)

9.  DVD's-- not as many as some years.  hubby got Seasons 1 and 2 of The Waltons and also his favorite non-Star Wars movie. Memento.  Spenser got  Nacho Libre which I was forced to watch last night.  I think I laughed once-- at the song he sang about the nun.  They loved it, though.  He and my husband thought it was hilarious.  Even Reed liked it.  (The little 2 didn't watch it)

10.  Spenser got a cross bow, a slingshot and a flashlight from Vision Forum.  They were all a big hit, although the forever flashlight is not as easy to use as you would hope.  The slingshot is particularly awesome.  He and his buddy shot it at a carboard box with a target on it for a long time yesterday afternoon.

11.  Littlest Pet Shops-- the 3 girls each got one and loved them!

12.  Jason got an MP3 player.  Not a fancy one, but cool enough.

13.  Gift cards-- we each got a Walmart gift card from Granny, a Barnes & Noble gc from Papa Bear, and the family got Pizza Hut and Blockbuster cards fom Uncle Conner.  We love them all!

13 Things I have bought online for the holidays

My husband reads my blog so I can't tell you what I got him, but no one else in my family reads it, so I can dish.  And I did some shopping in actual B&M stores, but with 4 kids of my own, and 2 that I babysit, it's not easy to get to a real store.  So I always look for free shipping and coupon codes online.

  1. For Macy:  The Little Mommy Toddler Doll, which is so much better than Baby Alive, cause Baby Alive poops in her diaper, and the Toddler Doll eats a sandwich.  {And Baby Alive was out of stock, and I had a $10 discount for the Toddler Doll. }
  2. For Macy: The Little Mommy Toddler Play All Day Activity Center.   Discounted, plus free shipping!
  3. For  everyone:  new soccer balls.  The younger 2 asked for them, and the older two actually needed them.  Spenser's is camo, Reed's is shiny blue, Sydney's is tie-dye, and Macy's is sparkly gold.
  4. For Sydney and Macy: hand-me-down game boy sp's from their cousins who upgraded to ds lites, and a couple of easy games for them to play
  5. For Spenser: eragon for game boy ($10 gc)
  6. For Reed: a  Kirsten doll (free shipping) and lots of AG books (ebay).  I got Sydney the mini-doll at Barnes & Nobles, with my educator's discount (20% off!)
  7. For my mom: a new digital camera, although I got it cheaper on ebay!
  8. For Spenser:  a slingshot from Vision Forum (had a $10 coupon)
  9. For Spenser: a crossbow from VF (the one I got is yellow, and I should have ordered the replacement darts)
  10. For Reed and Spenser:  notepads and sticky notes from Vistaprint, personalized with our homeschool name. (free except for s&h
  11. For Gram and Grandma: FREE Photo calendars, also from Vistaprint
  12. For school, not really a present, but holiday related: a lapbook about new years day around the world
  13. For Macy:  a Dora fairy doll.  (I got Sydney the Dora big sister doll at Kohl's)

13 Recent Google Searches--Thursday Thirteen #10

Posted in Thursday 13

I always have fun seeing the Google searches that bring people to my blog, and reading about them on  other blogs.  Other people's are always funnier, but oh well.

Lately people have found me searching for :
  1. Boy Scout popcorn-- sorry the orders are over for this year.
  2. Arctic Edge VBS pictures-- I guess they are still there LOL.
  3. Moving Monkeys-- no idea on this one.
  4. Turkey Brine Recipe-- this is a popular one this week LOL.  It's here.
  5. Thanksgiving Activities-- here are some.
  6. Birthday Pun-- oh sorry, it wasn't even a good one.
  7. Igloo-- look under VBS pics.  We made it with white balloons.
  8. God is a consuming fire-- consuming fire is the name of my husband's youth worship service on wednesday nights.
  9. Thanksgiving skit-- sorry don't have one
  10. Thanksgiving preschool ideas-- see #5
  11. Mowgli pictures-- they are back in June or July (I think) when we did the Jungle book.
  12. Various searches for Latina-- my Latin curriculum is Latina Christiana.  If you are searching for J Lo, I am sorry.  But I can conjugate amo.
  13. Thanksgiving sharing ideas--I like this one.  It is similar to what we have done only with a better explanation.
