Homeschooling in New Brunswick

Fun stuff in the Moncton area

There is a group of moms in the Moncton area who get together for support and encouragement. Here is an excerpt from an e-mail I received:

Our next homeschool mom get-together is going to be on Friday, March 24...
For the first 30 minutes of our meeting, Kevin Rogers will be there to tell
us more about the upcoming HENB conference in May.  We will also be
discussing tips for organizing your homeschool and extra-curricular
activites available in the Moncton area.  If you have any resources in
regard to organization that have helped you, feel free to bring them
along.  Also, if you have the contact info (phone number, etc) for
extra-curricular activities that your children have enjoyed, please bring
that info along as I intend to compile a list of this info and then send it
out to everyone.  I know as a newcomer to Moncton, I don't know what is out there!  Bring along your ideas!  Everyone welcome!
What I left out of the above are contact info and driving directions (you know, the "internet security" thing). If you are interested, e-mail me and I can forward you the original message.

From another e-mail:
MONCTON HOMESCHOOL SCIENCE FAIR

Our Moncton Homeschool Science Fair is to be held May 9th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Moncton Public Library.  This is a GREAT opportunity for our children and lots of fun!  The last homeschool science fair I attended on PEI was amazing.  I saw dioramas of sharks, a model of a tsunami, a display about hens and ducks, a mini hot air balloon and even an I SPY creation to name but a few.  The possibilities are endless!

It does NOT need to be a big deal - a couple of hours may be all you need.  It does NOT need to be an experiment - many children (younger children especially) enjoy making an information display on a science topic that interests them.  You might ask your child what interests them as a place to start.  Krista Lutes does have a selection of books on projects that may help you.  You might email her if you are interested in finding out what she has.  Another helpful hint - display board is available at Michael's (about $8).

We need at least five families to make this a real success.  The room is rented at a fee of $15 and will be divided amongst attending families.

Again, e-mail me for the original message which contains contact and registration information.

AND FINALLY.... the last one.....

First Annual Moncton Homeschool Talent Show

All families and all ages are invited to participate in an event sure to inspire!!  Members of your family may be able to:

-recite poetry
-play a musical instrument or sing
-perform a skit or short play
-tell about a favorite hobby
-talk about a subject you studied this year that was of great interest
-demonstrate a skill you have, eg. gymnastics, karate, etc
-talk about your involvement in something that has benefited you, eg. 4-H,
etc
-just about anything that you enjoy or believe to be a talent that you have
or are developing!

This is a chance for our children to develop their public speaking skills in oral presentation or their skills in performance.  Most of all its lots
of fun and a chance to learn more about each other!

This event is tentatively scheduled for early June.  This will be a great way to end your year!  Exact time, date and place to be announced.  Please email me if you intend to participate.  We would like to have at least ten families involved.  Even if you don't intend to participate, you are welcome to come form part of the audience!  In time, I will need each participating family to email me the title of their presentation and what it is, names and ages of those performing so I will be able to create a program.  Thanks.

As usual, please e-mail me for further information. As these were all forwarded to my friend Louanne originally, and she then passed them on to me, I'm not entirely sure who to give credit to. Someone named Rachael. Thank you whoever you are!
