Mariposa Museum in Peterborough
This following message is circulating on a few local Homeschool sites and looks very interesting. I have planned to visit the Mariposa Museum many times myself and have not done it yet. I am sure there will be one group or another going now, I won't pass it up again.
Hello Homeschooling Parents,
I have had many calls from you guys to request visits and some of
you have visited. I thought that I would try this idea for 2 months
to see if it might work for your groups since I have heard that it is
difficult to create opportunities for your students with smaller
group sizes.
I am going to schedule 2 dates - one in November and one in December
for just the homeschool groups. It will be an open enrollment so
that you can take advantage of a visit with a larger group size. We
welcome you anytime to the museum for your own self-guided tour, but
to do a program for very small groups is difficult for us here... so
I thought I would try this out. If this works for folks I will
continue into the 2008 school year.
I will create a lesson for the age group that signs up on 2 different
topics. For November 28th, I will focus on "Toys, Dolls, and Games"
from around the world and on December 11th I will do a program
on "Festival of Lights" focusing on looking at all the celebrations
that happen during this season. I will make this accessable to the
age group that signs up and it will go no matter what. I will plan a
program to run from 9:30 to 11:30 on each of those dates.
I would like to do these 2 programs and then if this works for all of
us I will choose programs on specific countries in the coming year.
We will be looking at different Asian cultures after our Latin
America exhibit ends on January 6th.
Please email me or call me ASAP. I just need how many kids, how
many adults, and the ages so I can plan accordingly. The price will
be $5 per child and nothing for adults.
Just so you know we have a Latin America exhibit up now with the
exhibits and information cards in the front windows, in the library,
in the community case, in the gallery, and elsewhere in the museum.
There are some great artifacts highlighted and David has done a
wonderful job collecting information on the exhibits.
I look forward to hearing from you and hope this helps you and your
students take advantage of coming to visit.
