Sep. 28, 2006 - The brisky air
It's been so gorgeous here weather-wise. I'm not really an outdoorsy person, but I love fall. It's such a relief after the hot summer to go out and get the paper in the mornings and feel a bit of brisk in the air. Is brisky a word? That's what we call it at our house and we invent so many words I can't even remember which ones are real. Living in the south gives you a pretty crappy excuse for fall, but I'm enjoying it all the same.
Yesterday the kids had tennis lessons and rather than sit and knit the whole time, I put in my iPod and walked around the park for 30 minutes. It was fabulous. I wish I lived a little closer and could do it more often, our neighborhood is just not good for walking. I walked very fast, jamming out to my tunes. I was trying really hard not to sing out loud and scare the geese, but how can you not sing along to Laura Branigan and "Gloria"?
Gloria, Gloria
I think they got your number
Gloria
I think they got the alias
That you been livin under
But you really don't remember
Was it something that you said
All the voices in your head
Calling Gloria.....
I realized yesterday that I have no idea what that song is talking about. Who cares. Good tune.
I have been trying very hard to get back to regular exercise and as of yesterday I have lost 7 lbs. That's like over a month. It's so hard. It's like I turned 35 and my body just said "forget it, just buy stretchy clothes." I have to keep working at it, because with this lovely fall weather, I'm going to have to put on pants. And right now, they are too tight.
I had a bit of a revelation when I thought about the fact that I've now lost a few pounds and coincidentally my husband has gone back to work. Hmmm...no shocker there. When he's not home, I don't really eat dinner, I'm not a dinner person. I only fix it because of the other 3 people in the house that have to eat it. I'd much rather have a good breakfast and lunch, a few snacks and then just an apple for dinner.
Dentist appointment for the kids today and no cavities! Yay! And I love this new dentist. Such a relief to find a dentist better than our other guy, who we loathed. The bad news is that both kids will likely need braces. Alex will probably need them, although it's one of those things that while it would certainly look better it probably wouldn't affect his oral health.
Grace's teeth are a nightmare. They look okay now, but she's got no room for growth. And the thumbsucking has finally caused issues. The dentist was very kind and gentle telling her about why it was so bad and how she needed to stop altogether. I got the feeling the speech was for me as well. I know I should have been more strict about it, but all I did was stop it when I saw it and got her a cotton glove to wear at night. I actually emerged from the womb sucking my thumb, so I understand how hard it is. I won't put cayenne pepper on it (although we did do curry powder which didn't burn, but didn't taste good either). She does it very rarely now, but sometimes when watching TVor riding in the van, I see it.
I called DH and told him to pick up some lottery tickets, this isn't going to be cheap.

oh I soooo can sympathize with the thumb sucking thing. My youngest is turning 7 in November and she STILL does it when she's resting or sometimes when watching a movie. I can't stand when the dentist looks at me like I'm a terrorist for not FORCING her to stop. I've tried, but it's almost like....well, she's going to get braces no matter what, so why stop her now?
No picture of your haircut?
