Forward Motion

Nov. 5, 2006 - Weekend wrap-up

This will likely not be a great surprise to anyone, but let me just say that a little bit of Weird Al Yankovic goes a lonnnng way.  My kids are enthralled and I've heard just about e-freaking-nough of "Spam" and "My Bologna".

There's major knitting going on here.  I finished a doggy sweater for Josie and it's a little big, but very cozy.  She likes it because it has buttons rather than squirming it over her noggin.  My second pair of socks is coming along.  They'd be moving faster if I didn't stop to admire them every few rows.  They are just so cool and they look so much more complicated than they really are.

I also cast on for handwarmers (the ones from Knitty with the cables...I'm too lazy tonight to link them) while watching The Amazing Race.  Grace wandered by and said "When are you going to knit something for me?"  Child, what to you call a purple hat and a pair of socks?!?  She wants a sweater or something.  I'm not up for anything with sleeves for a while.  I need to get started on some Christmas gift knitting, mostly easy dishcloths, but I still better get going.

I used my Best Buy bucks to get a memory card for my camera, so there should be nifty pictures forthcoming.  After buying the washer and dryer there, I earned a LOT of Best Buy bucks.  They suck you in.  You buy one thing, then you earn bucks, then you go back and buy more stuff with the bucks and get more bucks, and you never escape.  I only ended up paying $5 for the 2G card and I still have bucks left over.  New printer, ya think?  Okay.  I'm Best Buy's prisoner.

A few times I've sat down to post about how we got new-to-us sofas this week, but no matter how witty I try to be, it's pretty boring.  DH went up for the court martial, court martial got delayed, DH went to my mom's for the weekend because it was closer than driving home, Mom ended up giving us a sectional they didn't want.  See?  Boring.  Don't tell DH, but I really don't like the sofas.  I'd never pick them out for myself.  The thing is, they are so so so so much better than my old ones that I don't really care.  Seriously, if I invited you to have a seat on my former sofas, you'd be like, "No thanks, I'll stand."  They were vile.  So at least we have clean, matching places to sit.  I've never ever bought a sofa that I wanted.  In 13 years, we've always gotten cast-offs and that's really okay.  I don't have to freak out if the kids spill something and the army is likely going to destroy them on the next move.  I took a little nap on it yesterday and it snoozes just fine.

Our school work last week was pretty shabby.  Between DH being gone, my birthday, DH coming home and general malaise, we didn't do much.  Mostly because it was just so hard to drag my sorry self out of bed in the mornings.  I don't know, maybe it's the weather (I think I say that every season), but I literally feel glued to the mattress in the mornings.  I sat down today and graded everything, made assignments for the week, and generally gave myself a pep talk, so this week should be better.

Do yourself a favor, don't let your kids find out about Weird Al.

Too late...my boys(all 3) love Weird Al! Good luck with your knitting. I have to get going with my Christmas knitting, too!

Happy knitting :)

Geez! I remember when Wierd Al was big and we just thought he was a riot and sang along to his songs and danced to his videos. What a wierdo huh? I refuse to let it in my house just for the reason that I know my kids will love it and the thought of Wierd Al playing nonstop 24/7 is enought for this hip mama to turn into her own Mother...

"Turn that infernal racket off!"
