Nov. 24, 2006 - Stove top strikes again

As everyone picked up their forks and began to eat yesterday, I kept looking at the table.

"It seems like I am forgetting something."  I said.

I got up and looked in the oven.  Looked in the refrigerator and freezer.

"Something is missing."  I insisted.

I sat down again.

DH said, "Hey, no stuffing?"

Crap!

I must say, as much as I gripe about the Stove Top, at least it can be ready in 6 minutes.  So nothing was charred, but it just wouldn't be a Thanksgiving at my table if everything was perfect.

I think the guys had a good time.  We ended up with 2 guests, co-workers of DH that had no plans for the day.  They complimented the turkey and ate enough that we only have a few leftovers.  I'm really glad I went ahead and made the fresh cranberry relish, it was wonderful.

In other news, my new blog is almost ready for me to move in.  I'll let everyone know when it's fit for company and you can come by and say hello.

Oooh, cranberry relish! You totally need to share the recipe. I ADORE cranberry sauce straight out of the can though, so I'd probably still have that too. =)

Totally honest opinion: I am a known food snob, and....(maybe I should whisper this?)...I actually really like Stove Top. Too bad I was so busy with Thanksgiving plans to read any blogs for the past week or I would have been inspired to use it for our dinner too. Our stuffing met an unfortunate fate -- was supposed to be our family's traditional french bread/apples/italian bulk sausage kind we make every year, but couldn't find the bulk sausage so I used some sort of smoked "worst" cut up in slices. Also, the bread was fresh, not stale, so when soaked, it turned into a huge soggy mess. In the end it looked lovely but tasted terrible. ~sigh~

Anyway, about your socks. From the looks of things, you've got a short-row heel. Don't feel bad about the fit -- plenty of people don't fit well into that style of heel (for me and my boys, they slip right off). I would suggest a heel flap (Knitty's Widdershins -- did you say that already?) If you are still concerned about the heel being too tight, increase towards the heel every third row instead of every second. I've modified heels before and it takes almost no thought. I hate sticky pattern modifications, but the cool thing about socks is that you can do slightly cockamamy (sp?!) things with them and still have them turn out just fabulous. So you should be good to go.

So sorry about the sweater. If I were you, I'd stuff it away for a while, then possibly consider the "add to the back later" at a much later date. Perhaps next spring? =)

I love Stove Top too. I made a recipe from Martha Stewart this year, with chestnuts and all, and I have to say I prefer Stove Top! (I like to mix a small box of Stove Top with 1 stick of melted butter and put that on top of casseroles for a really crunchy-yummy topping!)

Thanks for your kind comments on my blog, and thank you for your well wishes!
