NotSuperMom: Thru my eyes

Jul. 12, 2006 - Been a long time..... am I procrastinating too much???

Well.. it's hard to believe, but it's already the middle of July.  And I still haven't been consistent in home schooling.    I had set my target date to start home schooling the first week of June, but that got pushed back because I did not have all the materials I wanted to start with.   Our church had several events in June that we participated in as well, so that prolonged things as well.  Then I didn't want to start the first week of July due to it being Independance day Holiday.

I believe another big part of it is that I am still working weekends, and late into the night, and then church takes up most of the day Sundays.  By the time Monday comes, I feel all of my strength is just zapped, and it seems to take the rest of the week to catch up on my rest before I go back to work on Thurdsay.    I've been really lax about our daily routine during the week, and even more lax about fitting schooling in during the day.

Monday evening, my hubby and I had a pretty good "heart to heart" about it.  He likes the idea of us homeschooling our daughter, but if she's to be homeschooled we need to start now.  We've decided that homeschooling needs to take a higher priority, even if it means me backing off on my housework.  Which I hate to even think about.  I'm not the biggest neat freak, but it still bothers me when our small home becomes cluttered or dirty.  I wonder if a lot of it has to do with me trying to be a perfect mom and home-maker?    So from now on, my housework will be limited to the basic mornign housework, the girl's chores, and if more needs to be done hubby will help do it after he gets home from work or it will go undone.

So for the past 3 days I've been efforting to organize and make out lesson plans and gathering what I'll need for schooling the next few weeks.

My daughter has completed Kindergarten in public school.  But I've decided to go through kindergarten again.   The cirriculum I'm using ( Learning at Home by Ann Ward) seems to be more advanced at the beginning of first grade than my daughter was at the end of Public School Kindergarten.

Learning at home is written for a 4 day a week school week.  I plan on "schooling" Monday-Friday, and have hubby take her on field trips on Saturdays when I am working.   With us schooling 5 days a week, we should get through the Kindergarten cirriculum sooner, and probably start 1st grade some time early next year.

Hubby will also be taking care of Phys Ed.  He is a Physical Therapist Assistant, so probably more qualified for Phys ed than a couch potatoe, bon-bon eating housewife... ;)

Well.... the sun's gone down and it's cooling of a little outside now, so Its time to take the kids outside for a while.
