Five Week Menu Plan

{ 7:29 PM, Jul. 11, 2007 } { Posted in Family } { 9 comments } { Link }
I attended the UHEA conference this year and went to a class that inspired me to want to make a 5 week menu.  The gal who taught the class made up this type of a menu for her family.  She has the same things for breakfast and lunch every week.  Monday is always the same, etc.  I will probably add it to my website down the road, when I do updates next.  For now, here is a copy of what I came up with.

I'm now working on a master shopping list.  By the time the 5 weeks are up, if we enjoyed these meals we can just start over again.  Basically, this might be all we'll ever need.  I think it is a great idea!

The plan looks great! I don't generally do a 5-week plan, but I do plan my according to meal type, like pasta, breakfast, crockpot. I can't plan too far out since I never know my work schedule from week to week, and I'll often plan according to the sales. But it's just such a great time and money saver to have your menu ready. Way to Go!

Wow! Looks a lot better that my menu plans that I scribble on a piece of scrap paper. Hmmm.... maybe I'll try making mine look better and maybe I will be more inspired to follow it!!!! Thanks for sharing! :)

Very cool!

Can I be nosey and ask what computer program you used to make that plan? I'm just wondering how you got the colored columns~ it looks very neat that way.
I usually do a 2-3 week menu plan (but only for suppers)~ it really helps with grocery shopping.

I do a weekly menu right now and a lot of times we will just carry the same menu over for the entire month. I also plan for 2 snacks each day....something that I had to do when I had my home daycare and my kids have gotten used to having so we just kept it in.
Thanks for sharing your menu. It is always fun to see how others do things :)

Wow! I too think a 5-week meal planner is a great idea! I already follow some guidelines such as this somewhat...but I never thought of putting it into practice for 5 weeks AND in a table-format...no pun intended! Thanks for sharing yours!
BTW, what is a UHEA conference? You already have me so intrigued? I guess I'll google it!
Thanks again for sharing!

Great Idea

This is a great idea Betsy. I think that you have inspired me! I do have one question. What do you mean by smorgasbord? What do you serve for that? Does that mean leftovers night or throwing something together at the last minute? Thanks for the tip.

Blessings,
Heather L.

I do a two week plan. I can't imagine shopping for five weeks at a time! (I get a little envious when I see someone shopping with just ONE cart. LOL!) Do you do separate weekly shopping for perishables? Love the colored chart. It's much nicer than notebook paper. :O)

Date Night!

We have a date night on Friday nights too! We usually watch an old movie and then, once in a while we go out to a movie or dinner. Which is not much of the time.

Blessings,
Heather L.

What a great idea. I have made up weekly plans, but not 5 week plans. This might be a great idea for my family. I'm always stumped when it comes to planning a new week. Thanks for sharing!! :-)
