Matt is staying home

With the first day of school for our towns public school coming up next Wednesday, hubby told me today that I can homeschool. I just have to go back to work part time for the winter at CBD. No biggie. We need the money to pay for oil anyway and if we happen to mvoe before then, then I don't have to go back to work.

Hubby also told methat if his older brother (who had a BIG problem homeschooling Chantelle the past 3 years) says anything, then to show him Chantelle's test scores from the past year. She scored in the above average range. Apparently this test also helped me with getting my hubby to agree with homeschooling Matt. He saw that not only did Chantelle learn something, she excelled and I did a good job.

So, tonight, I put together the final works to the curriculum for Matt this year. I have been doing the planning all summer long, just in case, so it wasn't to hard to finalize. I just need to place a small order with Rainbow Resource for Matt's math and Language Arts stuff, then we are allr eady to begin. I have history and science already here (I love science), so we can begin with those and then add in the math and language arts when we get them. I do have a cheep math workbook that Matt had been using over the summer for review, so we can finish that in the meantime.

I am so happy that he is going to be home!

I love it when field trips come to the house

My hubby drives a concrete truck for a living and he happened to be in the neighborhood one day a few weeks ago. Matt got to hang out in the cab for a little bit, asking questions about how everything works and if he could talk on the cb radio.

What if....

What if you had/needed to go back into the workforce or go back to school so that you could eventually contribute financially to the household. This is something my husband and I are discussing for me. I am having a hard time processing this right now. I don't want to send my daughter, who is starting 2nd grade to public school.  How about only for a year or two?

I was thinking of doing Medical Transcription, would need to study it for about a year online, then I would probably have to go out and work for a year or so for experience. But then I could work at home parttime making around $20,000.

I don't know. I am kind of stressed right now about it. But I know he is really stressed right now with not finding work. It has been almost 6 months, he thinks part of it is because he is over 50. He wants us/me to have something to fall back on.

Well, I have wedding stuff to concenstrate on today.....

More on rugs....

Awhile back, I shared about my love of area rugs and how I think they make my home (with hardwood floors throughout) look so much more homey and comfortable.  To me, a room with hardwood floors and no rugs, tends to look cold and uninviting.  And in the winter when it's cold, I can't stand stepping out of bed onto those cold hardwood floors, so I try to keep rugs near all of our beds as well.

The other week, I told you about Ashley's big plans to move up to the attic.  That's going to be quite the major undertaking, as we're still working on getting all the "attic stuff" out and organized and finding new places to store everything.  The next step will be finding someone to tackle the drywalling project, which could prove a bit tricky since we've got a 4-pitched roof (or whatever you call that).  Ashley is already planning colors for the walls and looking at various bedding options, etc.  She's also shown me a few pictures of contemporary rugs that she likes.  The floors in the attic aren't even finished, but I think just putting down a rug or two will really help it look like home.

I'll be sure to share pictures when it's all said and done (but don't expect it to be anytime soon!)

1. When I'm sick I'm miserable and depressed (I mean, let's face it, moms don't have time to be sick).

2. When I take a walk, I think about planning things or the things I see.

3. Money can't buy happiness but it can pay the bills.

4. Cotton makes me comfy and leather makes me think of shoes (anywhere above the foot doesn't really work for me).

5. My favorite color these days is purple because it's cheery and makes me smile.

6. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to visiting some friends for supper, tomorrow my plans include staying home with Gracie and Ian while Brian and Ashley enjoy a youth adventure and Sunday, I want to enjoy our special church service and, hopefully, relax (don't I say that every week?!)!

A lot of the links I have found lately that I wanted to save are either ideas for homemade Christmas gifts or school-related links. So.. this edition of Noteworthy Tidbits is going to have a School theme.

Something I didn't learn growing up or in home-ec class was how to can foods.  I wanted to try it this year and then teach my girls. I got peaches and collected equipment to give this a try but ... a few unexpected things have come my way that are more important so, we will do this next year and the peaches will get frozen this year! Anyway... Here are two great links for those starting out in canning!

This one has step by step instructions with pictures! The everything stop for info on canning! PickYourOwn.org

The Simple Woman's Cannery

Here are some wonderful projects for Art and for inspiring creativity!

The neatest homemade flowers: Simple to do and lovely to display!

Then ... look how she used them to make some really cool mobiles!

Here is a neat ribbon mobile! I'd like to incorporate the two mobile styles!

Science: TODAY in Science: See things that happened in Science (history) on a certain day! Select today's date or any other date and a list will appear to read!

Here are two wonderful history resources to use during a unit on the U.S. Presidents:

Presidential FUN FACTS and then... Printable American Presidents Cards (I really like these!!)

Here is the best site for fun with spelling words, SpellingCity ... just type in your spelling list and have fun studying the words with word scrambles, word seaches, and games!!

This site is one to try when learning a foreign language! Choose the language you want to work on and then "go to town" with games, videos, activities, etc.

Here are some for algebra... a new subject in our homeschooling recently!

Algebra Basics. Pick a problem you want to see solved. It will show you and tell you (visual and audible learning!)

This site has great tutorials. The name is a bit dumb though (Math for morons like us.-- I don't think so!- I wouldn't call anyone a moron- great, easy-to understand info though!)

Here are a few things for ...

Watch this movie for a great and simple learning tool anyone can make. My tots are going to love these! So simple and clever- I love it! Alpabuddies will make an appearance in our home soon!

We will be doing a mini-unit on The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We will be doing these great pages after we read the book!

Lastly, did you see this list of FREE resources that TOS Magazine put together?

Now if you want to join in on this and post some of your own Noteworthy Tidbits, please sign in with Mr linky! You can also grab the logo here and add it to your post! (Please link back to this post!)

I'll stop by and check out your links!

Last week, after my oldest son had been to the ER for the second time that week, I mentioned that Hubby and I were taking Little One out for a treat because he had been so good during the hospital trips.  Well, I thought I would share a picture of his delicious treat this week for Show and Tell.

Photobucket

One of my dear friends mentioned not to forget to treat myself while I was at it. Let me assure you I most certainly did not forget!!!! Here was my treat for such a hard week!
