Core Learning Ltd. is an educational publisher of software, books, multi-curricular projects and online learning applications, based in Toronto, Canada and Philadelphia, USA. They offer products in a vast array of subjects: Math, Art, Health, Language, and Critical Thinking.
Our family had the blessing of receiving Crayola Art Studio to review. There are two levels. Level 1: Begin to Draw, and Level 2: Studio. Level 1 is for younger students, with fewer, bigger icons, fewer options and a less cluttered desktop. The Studio Level is more advanced with features such as Horizontal and vertical symmetry (mirror imaging), motifs, more media options such as charcoal. For both levels you can open activities into your page such as storyboards to complete, grids to help with perspective, pictures to complete, outlines to show how to begin a drawing, and more. One exciting aspect is that colours can be blended, unlike many of these drawing programs available. Pictures can be saved under "My Pictures", and the best part is, no papers all over the house! My daughter, when she's not dancing, is drawing all day and the papers pile up all over the house, not to mention the expense of buying it all - how wonderful that she can do some of her drawing on the computer instead, and also experience some of the media we don't actually have at home.
This software is based on the beginner and Junior levels of Core Learning's "Corefx - Three Level", so if you find your child is outgrowing this software, you might want to look into it. The age stated is "4 and up" but I believe children as young as three could use Level 1. This was a big hit in our home - my children, 4 years and 9 years, fought over taking a turn to use it LOL.
