Sorry it has been so long since my last post. This month has been crazy...in good and plan detouring ways. My birthday was on the 8th...I turned 30 (eek) :) the next morning I was on a plane to NY to see my best friend that I havent seen since before her son was born (he is 15 months old) the plan was for me to spend Thursday through Sunday there and return Sunday evening back home...well the snow had other plans as I (along w/ thousands of others) was stranded in NY due to the 26+ inches of snow that fell. Granted I enjoyed the extra day w/ my friend and her little boy, but at this point I actually missed my own family knowing I was uprooting all their plans for the eveing and Monday as well. I was able to get a flight out on Monday evening and landed a few minutes after 10 pm...The next morning (Valentines Day) I try to wake up as if I had a decent nights sleep...cause the kids were happy to see I was finally back PLUS it was Kelsie's 7th birthday that day as well.....we all spent the day together and had a good time going through all the good stuff I brought back for them. So in between all of that and trying to get schooling materials all together for next year it has been a LONG month!
Today is my son's 5th birthday. He is very happy with the fact he is now a "whole hand" old.... that is until he realizes he will never be 4 again....no matter how hard he tries. For those of you who dont know...4 is his favorite number and he mentioned on several occasions he always wanted to be 4 years old. I would comply w/ him w/ a passing "yes dear"...and go on w/ my day. Well for the moment he is settled into his ripe ol' age of 5 and has stuck to having the #4 be his favorite number. We are having his party on Saturday so he will have to wait until then for his cake and the rest of his presents (we gave him ours already...along w/ my mom giving him one small gift yesterday), he got to pick supper out tonight ...he picked Burger King (big surprise). I did feel a little bad for him today ....as Kelsie was sick w/ a nasty cough (tried to keep them as separate as possible in a Ranch style home) and I had flu like symptoms today....so the poor thing spent the day playing by himself and watching whatever movies he wanted....the more I think of it..he had it pretty good today
On a side note I was able to get Kelsie to take a nap (trust me that earned me a medal or something) and when she got up she still had some of the cough and I reminded her to cover her mouth...which proved to come in handy since she was coughing so hard she litterally coughed her tooth out!! But seeing as she listened to me and had her hand there..the tooth didnt fly across the room..it just fell to the floor.
Well I woke up w/ a killer headache...you know the one that you just know no matter what it will be with you all day....anyway....when you promise something to the kids...the headache has to take a back seat. So....we made two more suncatchers (both dogs) Kelsie's is mostly brown w/ black eyes/nose and a red and white bone in its mouth.....Mikeys is all of those colors everywhere :) Those put the lovely smell of melting plastic into the air (lovely for the pounding head). So, in order to rid the house of that smell....we made Sugar Cookies (helped the smell, not the headache). We have Butterflies, Stars, Daisies, Teddy Bear, Dog, and Heart sugar cookies w/ colorful sprinkles...I even took a small cup and made the round ones as well. As, I sit here and type this with the kids RUNNING through the house chasing each other....I question my call on making and letting them consume some of the cookies ;-)
Does anyone have a favorite cookie recipe that they either got from a cookbook or was a family favorite or something that they just threw together and created on their own? Something different from the typical chocolate chip or sugar cookie. I am trying to get into the swing of baking and I figured if it was cookies the kids would be more willing to help. They enjoy helping w/ supper sometimes but it is usually followed by "I will help you, but do we have to eat it?"
Thank you for looking at this, as I am still new at setting all of this stuff up and hope to get better as time goes on. This is set up to help new homeschoolers get ideas and support from veteren homeschoolers and vise versa. So, if any one who has been educating at home for a while would like to share what a typical day is like for you and your child(ren) that would be helpful, along with some of your favorite activities and crafts.
