May. 9, 2008 - All I want for Mother's Day
Okay well DH is worried because of what he can't get for me for Mother's Day and while I don't need anything there is something I'd like:
I have always had a affinity for lilac bushes and magnolia trees. The scent they have is so light but fragrant that it is relaxing. So this is what I told Don I'd like but since money is tight I know the liklihood of me getting it this year is slim, that's okay though, one year I will get one :) along with a magnolia tree. I told him to go next door and ask the neighbors (no one lives there but the owners do come by to cut the grass) if he can dig up their bush and let us have it LOL. He said he doubts that would ever happen. I can just smell the lilacs. They bring back such great child hood memories :)

I wonder if you can take a start from their tree without digging the whole thing up? Not sure if that would work. I love lilacs, too.
I'D HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO DO IT. BUT GOOD IDEA.

I love lilacs too! I have successfully transplanted lilacs just by digging up a portion of the bush and replanting. New shoots keep coming up every year and most people I know, who have a mature bush, are happy to give away a few shoots. Keep in mind, the smaller the shoots, the longer it will be before you have flowers.
In my area lilacs bloom on Mother's Day almost every year. :)
