H1N1 Precautions
| This was shared by one of our group members, I thought I would share it. We haven't had very many infections here not like I had thought we might have still never hurts to do all you can to minimize risk. Cheryl
Tamiflu does not kill but prevents H1N1 from further proliferation
> till the
> virus limits itself in about 1-2 weeks (its natural cycle). H1N1,
> like other
> Influenza A viruses, only infects the upper respiratory tract and
> proliferates (only) there. The only portals of entry are the
> nostrils and
> mouth/ throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost
> impossible
> not coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions.
> Contact with
> H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.
>
> While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1
> infection,
> in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and
> development
> of secondary infections, some very simple steps - not fully
> highlighted in
> most official communications - can be practiced (instead of focusing
> on how
> to stock N95 or Tamiflu):
>
>
> 1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official
> communications).
>
> 2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch
> any part
> of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).
>
> 3. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you
> don't trust
> salt). H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal
> cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling
> prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same
> effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one.
> Don't
> underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.
>
> 4. Similar to 3 above, clean your nostrils at least once every day
> with warm
> salt water.
> Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga
> asanas
> to clean nasal cavities), but blowing the nose hard once a day and
> swabbing
> both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very
> effective
> in bringing down viral population.
>
> 5. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C
> (Amla
> and other citrus fruits). If you have to supplement with Vitamin C
> tablets,
> make sure that it also has Zinc/bioflavonoids to boost absorption.
>
> 6. Drink as much of warm liquids as you can. Drinking warm liquids
> has the
> same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off
> proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they
> cannot
> survive, proliferate or do any harm.
>
> All these are simple ways to prevent, within means of most
> households, and
> certainly much less painful than to wait in long queues outside public
> hospitals.

Hi Clarkies,
Just a quick note to tell you about auditions
at Clark Theatre for "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever "
By Barbara Robinson
This Saturday October 10th at 3:00pm
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Kathryn Hartney is directing. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" plays at Clark Youth Theatre December 4-5 and 9-12 at 7:30 pm and December 6 & 13 at 2 pm. This beloved Christmas tale has become a Clark tradition, and makes its 25th annual appearance on our stage. The Herdman's are the worst kids in school. One Sunday the Herdsman's come to church to take advantage of the free snacks the minister gives out. It just so happens that's the same day for tryouts for the annual church Christmas Pageant. After a little peer intimidation, they all walk out with the lead roles. Disaster looms, but so does the possibility of learning the true meaning of Christmas.
Don't forget come see ...
What: "As You Like It" by William Shakespeare
When: October 9, 10, 16, & 17 at 7:30 pm and Sunday October 11 & 18 at 2:00 pm.
Where: Clark Theatre 11440 E Admiral Place,
Reservations: 669-6455 Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for Students/Seniors
Clark Youth Theatre proudly presents "As You Like It" by William Shakespeare.
Clark Theatre's annual classic play for 2009 transports us to the mythical vacation land of Arden, where we follow the adventures of Rosalind, considered by many to be Shakespeare's greatest female character. Forced to flee her evil uncle, she disguises herself as a boy and searches for her exiled father. Comedy and romance inevitably ensue. Containing Shakespeare's classic "All the world's a stage" monologue, "As You Like It" is one of his best-loved comedies.

Kids and cars~ The dangers of power window

2913 West 113th Street Leawood KS 66211 (913) 327-0013 Fax (913) 327-0014
Greetings from your friends at KidsAndCars.org!
Power windows is our topic today.
We would like to find out more about your personal (and your pet’s) experiences with power windows. We have created a very simple survey that literally only takes a minute or two to complete. We would like to gather information from as many people as possible; so please feel free to forward this message on to co-workers, friends and family.
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=bW4R7c9PfG49TbSIEbL0OQ_3d_3d
We also have just finished an educational Public Service Announcement (PSA) about the dangers power windows can pose to children and others. You can preview the 30-second PSA on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXFZ7pFvgmk We would like to see this played on TV stations, doctor’s offices, at safety fairs, public health and hospital settings, etc.
It’s very important for the public to understand that power windows have between 30-80 lbs of pressure when closing. We constantly hear from people who tell us “they had no idea power windows are so dangerous” and “they never even thought about needing to protect their children from this danger.” Let’s make sure we get the word out to help eliminate this most preventable cause of injury or even death.
Please take the survey. Your input is very valuable!

Hello everyone!
Hi there and happy summer! I hope everyone is getting to have some down time and staying cool in this weather. We did our scout camp two weeks ago. it was fun, nothing like fishing, zip line, BB's and Bow and Arrow (Which I got to do too, and I wasn't too bad at it!!) It was so hot though. I am a cool weather person. I just wanted to say hi to everyone and tell you all it is crazy busy right now, wait isn't this summer? I was just looking over my week for next week and it is already full... hhhmmm I need some down time!!
We are still doing some school work, I don't want that new stuff that he learned to slip through the cracks and be gone! I am going to try to stay up with the blog for summer, so do send me info to post, I'll get in on as soon as I can. Have a great summer! Cheryl |

Adult Laughing Matter Improv Saturday Night
May 30, 8pm at Clark Theatre!
Come join us for a night of comedy and add your own spin to any scene
performed by Heller Theatre's own comedy improv troupe, Laughing
Matter, its comedy the whole family can enjoy! Laughing Matter has
been around for the last 20 years and has been the training ground for
most of the current improv groups in Tulsa.
What happens at a Laughing Matter Improv show? It is interactive
theatre with audience participation-in fact, it's the audience who makes
the performance happen. Improvisation is theatre of the moment and the
moment is always something to laugh at. If you like "Whose Line is it
Anyway" or "Second City", you'll love Tulsa's version!
The show will take place at Clark Theatre. Tickets for each show are
$5 a night and reservations can be made by calling (918) 669-6455.
Tickets can also be bought at the door.
Clark Theatre is located at 11440 E Admiral Place, just east of Garnett
on Admiral.

Center, and will reopen in time for a full season of comedy and drama
for the 2009-2010 season. Call 746-5065 for more information or visit
