Fun Summer Activities at Tulsa LIbraries!

Roving Reptiles! Thursday June 01 2006 from 10:30 am until 11:15 am at Charles Page Library, 551 E Fourth St. Sand Springs, OK 74063. (918) 591-4585 and Tuesday, June 13 2006 from 1:30 pm until 2:15 pm at Broken Arrow Library. 300 W. Broadway, Broken Arrow, OK  74012, (918) 251-5359.. Want to touch and hold Princess the baby alligator? Would you like to pet a snake? Get your courage up! Terry Childs of Roving Reptiles will present an interactive program involving all species of reptiles including lizards, snakes, alligators and turtles. Roving Reptiles is a volunteer organization dedicated to the welfare of reptiles and amphibians. Visit their Web site at www.rovingreptiles.net and check out the great photos of their reptiles. This event is for ages 5-12. Special Instructions to participants: Seating is limited. Children given first priority. Adults admitted if space available.

Asian-American Festival. Saturday June 03 2006 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm at Martin Regional Library. 2601 S. Garnett Rd. Tulsa, OK 74129. 918.669-6340. Celebrate and learn about the customs and traditions of Asian-Americans with a day of entertaining, educational events for the entire family. Explore the colorful cultures of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries in Asia. The festival kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Dragon Dance (Hung Gar), presented by Ten Tigers Kung Fu. At noon, meet Jane Hyun, author of "Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling: Career Strategies for Asians. The festival includes authentic arts, crafts and food booths; henna painting and sari folding; face painting and fun activities and programs for kids; martial arts presentations; origami instruction; acupuncture, Yogalates (yoga and Pilates)and belly dance demonstrations; a Japanese tea ceremony; plus traditional classical dances of India. This event is for all ages.

The Rain Forest With OkMozart. Monday June 05 2006 from 10:30 am until 11:00 am at Hardesty Regional Library. 8316 E. 93rd St., Tulsa, OK 74133. (918) 250-7307 and Wednesday June 07 2006 from 11:00 am until 11:30 am at Central Library, Aaronson Auditorium (400 Civic Center, Tulsa, OK  74103, 596-7977). Venture into a tropical rain forest with the Colorado-based David Taylor Dance Theatre. This nationally-acclaimed multimedia dance group will offer a teaser of its popular production “Rainforest” that will be performed June 12 at the OkMozart Festival in Bartlesville. This event is for ages 4 and older.

Paws, Claws, Wings and Things. Monday June 05 2006 from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm at Suburban Acres Library. 4606 N. Garrison Ave., Tulsa. 74126. 918-591-4004 and Tuesday June 20 2006 from 1:30 pm until 2:15 pm at Nathan Hale Library. 6038 E. 23rd St., 74114, 918-669-6060 and Thursday June 29 2006 from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm at Glenpool Library.  An expert from the Oxley Nature Center will bring hands-on items and activities to demonstrate how Oklahoma animals and plants are built to survive. This event is for ages 5-12. Seating is limited so we may refer you to another library. Children given first priority. Adults admitted if space available.

Riley the Wonder Dog and Susan Phariss. Riley will demonstrate his incredible level of training with amazing tricks. Riley won’t tell his secrets, but Susan will! Weird Stuff! Monday June 05 2006 from 4:30 pm until 5:00 pm at Hardesty Regional Library. Join Mr. Brad for experiments and weird science facts. This event is for ages 7-12. Preregistration is required. Call 250-7307 to register

If you like snakes, you'll love this informative program featuring live snakes. This event is for ages 5-12. Seating is limited. Children given first priority. Adults admitted if space available

Introduction to MS Word. Tuesday June 06 2006 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Hardesty Regional Library. Computer Class - Click Here for details and prerequesites. This event is for adults and teens. No registration required. Class is limited to 20 people on a fist-come, first-served basis

We've Got the Claws and the Tales! Thursday June 08 2006 from 10:30 am until 11:15 am at Charles Page Library. 551 E Fourth St. Sand Springs, OK 74063. (918) 591-4585. Polly can do tricks, but she might nip you! Whitney Price of the Oklahoma Avicultural Society will tell more tales about Polly and how to care for her. Whitney has another bird that was mistreated by its previous owners and was rescued, but is very docile and will let you pet her. Join Price and her birds and learn about the responsibilities of having a pet bird. This event is for ages 5-12. Seating is limited. Children given first priority. Adults admitted if space available

Belle Starr -- Oklahoma Outlaw. Thursday June 08 2006 from 1:30 pm until 2:30 pm at Helmerich Library. 5131 E. 91st Street, Tulsa, OK  74137, (918) 596-2466. Join Karen Vuranch as she portrays the historical character Belle Starr in this year's "Oklahoma Outlaws and Authors" Chautuaqua event. Vuranch is a nationally known storyteller, author, teacher and actor. This event is for ages 10 and older.

Wild World of Drums. Thursday June 08 2006 from 2:00 pm until 2:45 pm at Maxwell Park Library. 1313 N. Canton, 74115. 918-669-6055. Take a world-class adventure with Jerry Scholl as you see, hear and play exotic percussion instruments from around the world. This event is for ages 5-12.

Unusual Pets – Keiki the Tenrec. Monday June 12 2006 from 1:15 pm until 2:00 pm at Kendall-Whittier Library. 21 S. Lewis (1st & Lewis), Tulsa, OK  74104, (918) 596-7303. Have you ever pet a tenrec? Come hear stories and meet these small spiny creatures from Madagascar and their hedgehog cousins. Gioia Kerlin, University of Tulsa professor, will present her unusual pets in this special bilingual program. This event is for ages 5-12.

Mozart Is Missing! Monday June 12 2006 from 1:30 pm until 2:15 pm at Bixby Library. 20 E. Breckenridge, Bixby, OK 74008, (918) 366-3397. Become a detective and assist the Council Oak Trio as they search for missing musician Wolfgang Mozart. Mystery sleuths will discover hidden musical clues.   This event is for ages 12 and younger. An adult must accompany 2-year-olds

Ben Franklin and Me, Tuesday June 20 2006 from 1:30 pm until 2:15 pm at Central Library Aaronson Auditorium. 400 Civic Center, Tulsa, OK  74103. 918-596-7977. This is Ben's 300th birthday! Join actor Stephen Smith as he reenacts Franklin and tells the famous and not-so-famous stories of this famous American's life. This event is for ages 6-12.

Renaissance Faire, Saturday June 24 2006 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Martin Regional Library. Hear ye! Hear ye! People of all ages are invited to join Robin Hood, Maid Marian, and the merry men and women of Sherwood Forest for a faire. Dress up in your finest and join us for a parade. Hear musicians, visit crafters, witness swordplay all at Tulsa City-County Library's second annual Renaissance Faire. This event is for all ages.
