Foreign Exchange Student - Statewide
As a homeschool parent and pastor, I am also area representative for OCEAN, a foreign exchange student organization. We place international high school students in American high schools and with host families. OCEAN has tremendously high moral standards to which all incoming students must abide. Many are Christians, and many are not, but all will attend church with the host family. They are exceptional in academics. This is like doing foreign missions in one's own home. Our family has hosted two students ourselves in the past, and one boy, now a young family man, is a Christian back in his home country of Uzbekistan. We had incredibly wonderful experiences. I can't think of a better type family a student can stay with it than a Christian home school family. The advantages are enormous for everybody concerned. A student does not need his own bedroom; he or she just needs a separate bed. The host family provides room and board; all students' natural parents will provide spending money for everything else. The students usually ride the school bus every day. The host family gets to pick which student it wants, based upon gender, nationality, interests, etc. We have many students arriving in August to be here until the end of the school year in May 2007. We have other students who will be arriving next January in mid-term and staying until the end of the fall semester in December 2007. Please contact me for more information: Chris Humphreys, (405) 969-2226, Humphreys6@peoplepc.com. Also visit www.oceanintl.org, 1-800-28-OCEAN to learn more about the program.
