Homeschool PE - Midwest City

Home School Physical Education Classes – Mon. & Wed. 1-2 pm, at the Tinker area YMCA. This program is designed to help your child develop motor and social skills, while exercising at the same time. Your child will be exposed to several different skills that are the building blocks of sports and healthy attitudes towards exercise. Classes begin June 5th, registration required. Basics of Investing Workshop - Midwest City

May 22, 2006. 6-8 pm. at the Midwest City library. This is a basic beginner's guide to what you need to know in order to safely invest your money so that you can prepare for your financial future. Trey Dixon of Citizen's Bank of Edmond will teach you about stocks, mutual funds, IRA's, as well as tax terms and definitions. This event is free to the public. Space is limited, please register at the information desk or call 918.762.4828 to reserve your place.

This would be a good class for your high school students!

Used Book Sale - Midwest City

Eastern OK County Used Book Sale, May 25, 2006, 11 am-2 pm at the Midwest City Community Center, 200 N. Midwest Blvd. Admission is free. Deadline for pre-registering is May 15th. Olympic Day 2006 - Midwest City, OK

Olympic Day, Thursday May 11, 2005, at Regional Park, Midwest City, OK

Each student must be at least 6 years old to participate and not older than 16 by May 11, 2006. Each student may enter 5 events. The cost is $3.00 per student. The rain make-up date is Thursday, May 18, 2006. The track meet will begin at 9:00 and will be over by 3:30 p.m.

ENTRY DEADLINE IS APRIL 30, 2006. 

There will be no registration at the park on Olympic Day. Each entry will receive a map, schedule of events, and participant flag(s). Students will compete against their own age group and sex unless the event is listed "mixed." Ages 13-14 and 15-16 will be combined in those two groups. All equipment will be provided, such as jump ropes, balls, etc. If both dates are rained out, there is no refund.

1.. 50 YARD DASH All ages
2.. 50 YARD HURDLES Ages 6-9. The hurdles are 10 inches high for this race.
3.. 100 YARD DASH All Ages
4.. 100 YARD HURDLES Ages 10-16. The hurdles are 18 inches high for this race.
5.. 200 YARD DASH All ages. This is 1/8 of a mile, be sure to practice.
6.. SACK RACE All Ages. Race is for 40 yards in a burlap sack. Must finish standing.
7.. JUMP ROPE MARATHON Mixed for all ages. Who can jump the longest? Hot peppers?
8.. KANGAROO RACE All ages. This race is for 30 yards holding a ball between the knees.
9.. SOCCER KICK All ages. Distance with accuracy will determine the winner.
10.. FOOTBALL THROW Ages 10-16. Each entry gets one practice and one throw.
11.. BEANBAG THROW Ages 6-9. Each entry will throw two beanbags.
12.. HULA HOOP MARATHON Mixed all ages. Hoop will start at the waist, may do 2 or 3.

Charcoal: It’s Not Just for the Grill
Instructor: Jane Johnson

From caveman paintings to modern day charcoal sticks, values come alive when working with charcoal. This messy medium teaches drawing, texturing, shading, and the contrast of light and dark.
 
Chocolate Creations: A Sculpting Workshop for Kids
Instructor: Coral McCallister
Date:  Sat. Oct. 22 OR Dec. 17
Time: 12:00-2:00 p.m.
Ages:  9-16 years
Cost:  $16
Imagine dogs made of chocolate, cups made of chocolate, alien creatures made of chocolate…all chocolate lovers will enjoy this opportunity to learn to sculpt with a homemade edible chocolate clay recipe developed by one of Oklahoma’s finest chocolate sculptors.

Drawing Big Cats
Instructor: Glen Bell
Dates: Sat. Oct. 8, 15, 29, Nov. 5
Time:  1:00- 3:00 p.m.
Ages:   7+
Cost:   $64
Using basic shapes and drawing techniques, children learn to create the big cats of the jungle.

Kookie Creatures
Instructor: Suzanne Thomas
Dates: Sat. Oct. 29-Nov. 19
Time: 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Ages: 7-12
Cost: $48
Use your imagination to draw kookie creatures with oil pastels.
Combine the features of your favorite animals to invent new creatures of your own.

Mask Making
Instructor: Ashley Hensley
Dates: Mon. Oct. 3-24
Time: 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Ages: 10-15
Cost: $ 64
Mask making has been a popular art form for many centuries and represent a variety of cultures. This class would involve making a mask with felting, and by making a mold of their own face. They’ll be painted and decorated to reflect everyone’s individual personality.

Watercolors
Instructor: Debbie Langston
Dates: Wed, Oct. 26- Nov. 16
Time: 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Cost: $48
Watercolors are a delicate medium. Learn to mix colors, layer washes, add texture, and shading. Students will work with watercolor pencils and paint to create a landscape, still life, floral, and student choice picture.

Clay Magic for Ages 4-7
Instructor: John Rhoades
Dates:  Oct.    5-26      ($32) and Nov.   2-30      ($32)
Time: 11:00 a.m.-Noon
Kids will join potter John as he shows them how to pinch a pot while using coil and slab techniques. They will create several hand built projects.

Preschool Printmaking
Instructor: Ashley Hensley
Dates: Tues. Oct. 4-25
Time:  10:00-11:30 a.m.
Ages:  4-6
Cost:  $48
Children learn to reproduce an image they have created using a variety of different media.
Printers ink, tempera paint, and acrylics will all be used.
Several processes will be used.
