Edwardian Day Camp - Hitchcock, OK
Edwardian Day Camp Lets Girls Step Back to Statehood Days. Shooting Star Enterprises will host two five-day, historical day camps for young ladies (3rd - 6th grades, ages 8-12) from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. each day at the Shooting Star's facilities in Hitchcock, Oklahoma. Session 1: June 26-30, 2006; Second 2: July 24-28, 2006. The goal: to immerse the young ladies in turn-of-the-century life by encouraging grace, manners, and creativity with a historical perspective.
The event, "Oklahoma Girls- An Edwardian Day Camp", focuses on the years 1904-1907, perfect for girls who love the American Girls(r) Samantha Series or for those who are preparing for the statehood events in 2007. Each participant will learn turn-of-the-century dance, plain and fancy sewing, basics of cooking and tea-time manners, as well as do historical crafts and play both indoor and outdoor period games. Costumes will be provided for the girls to wear during the camp.
Marna Jean Davis is a Living Historian and Historical Clothing Designer residing on her family farm in Hitchcock, Oklahoma with her husband Doug, two daughters age 2 and 8 and her Grandfather. She has worked with children for many years in prestigious museums such as the Buffalo Bill Historic Center in Cody, Wyoming in addition to local schools and museums. In preparation for the 2006 Battle of Round
Mountain Civil War reenactment in Yale, OK, some upcoming FREE period
dance workshops are being conducted by Martha Ray of the Oklahoma
Historical Society. No prior experience needed in order to
participate. Just come in comfortable modern clothes and tennis
shoes for the workshops. The workshops will be held on the following
dates in the basement of the Methodist church in the town of Yale
(about 30 min E of Stillwater on Hwy 51):

Winter Solstice Walks - Spiro Mounds
Winter Solstice Walks, Wednesday, December
21, 2005, at the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center. Special guided
tours of the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center by
archaeologist and manager Dennis Peterson. Starting at 11 a.m., 2 p.m.
and 7 p.m. each walk will last about 2 hours and require about 1 mile
of easy walking. Dennis will talk about the mounds, the history,
excavations, stories, ceremonies and why some of the mounds line up
with the solstice and equinox sunsets. Cost is $3 for adults and $2 for
children.

Scout Venture Crew - Chickasha
Scout Venture Crew. Young men and
women, aged 15-21, are encouraged to come, enjoy free pizza, and learn
about an exciting new group in the Chickasha area. The group, called a
Venture Crew, will be chartered to the American Legion of Chickasha by
the Last Frontier Council, B.S.A. Activities will nearly unlimited and
will include rock climbing, SCUBA, low impact camping, backpacking,
team confidence and leadership building. The youth members will learn
how to organize group activities, gain funding, and run the Crew with
minimal adult input. You are invited to come to the Chickasha Pizza Hut
