First Cherokee Saturday of the Year Offered Feb. 4. PARK HILL, Okla. – On the first Saturday of every month members of all federally recognized Cherokee tribes, and one guest, are admitted free to the Cherokee Heritage Center museum and villages.  The first Cherokee Saturday of 2006 is February 4.
Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to view the Cherokee Genealogy Dawes Roll Exhibit.  This exhibit features several Cherokee rolls and their value to researchers and will show reasons why the Dawes Roll was created as the only roll accepted in documenting Cherokee tribal membership.
Also offered on the first Saturday of every month are newly developed genealogy workshops, sponsored by Bartlesville Office Supply.   Experienced genealogist Roy Hamilton will be available at 11 a.m. to offer instruction on the numerous resources available for tracing one’s family history.  While this workshop is free to tribal members on Cherokee Saturday, registration by the Friday prior to the workshop is required.
In addition to the above-mentioned items, the Cherokee Heritage Center offers many permanent attractions.
The Ancient Village offers guided tours through a replica of a Cherokee village as it would have appeared before European contact. Visitors can witness Cherokee people performing the daily activities of their ancestors.

Through the Trail of Tears Exhibit visitors can learn more about the tragic journey known as the Trail of Tears traveled by the Cherokee and four other tribes.  Through special effects lighting, videos, audio recordings, art work, life cast figures and holograms, this exhibit gives a detailed account of the Trail of Tears, a tragedy that has become a symbol for the suffering of all Indian people.
The Museum Store offers a wide variety of books, apparel, jewelry, and other native arts and crafts.

Adams Corner Rural Village: Adams Corner Rural Village is a reconstruction of a late 19th century rural Cherokee community as it may have appeared after European contact. Each of the village’s seven buildings are designed and decorated to represent the lifestyles of Cherokee people during this time. Connected to Adams Corner is Heritage Farm, home to many animals common in this period.

In addition, the museum hosts two major art shows each year giving artists an opportunity to showcase their work and visitors an opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind pieces. The museum also features a shop where visitors can purchase handcrafted Cherokee clothing, pottery, prints, jewelry, baskets and weavings.

Cherokee Family Research Center: A genealogy library is available Monday through Friday, and Saturday by appointment, with paid Museum admission.
