Psalms, Songs And Poetry That Glorify The Lord Written by an OldFashionGirl
• Jun. 21, 2009 - A salvation Story
Jesus has saved us from a horrable end.
He rescued us with love, grace and open arms!
The salvation story for man and that of my rescue dog's life are very similar.
I wanted to write about this because the stories seem paralell.
Molly was born a homeless mutt in Chiuauah Mexico. She was placed in a pit by the Mexican authorities, called the "Horrible Place." With no hope, she awaited her turn for being electracuted. All the caught strays die that way. It is the cheapest means to euthanize them in Mexico.
But the she was saved! Just as we are saved from eternity in the pit, so was Molly!
Some kind ladies visit the pit every week, literally swooping over the fence to rescue dogs. Molly was the only dog out of 250, that was saved that day.
She was then sent to an organzation where she was quarintined for 30 days, given medical help, and send over the border for adoption. She is the joy of my life.
Just as this adoption organazation, saves strays, cleans them up and gives them a second chance, so does Jesus to the lost. He saves them, heals them from broken hearts and sore wounds, giving them a chance to live a better life in Him.
Pretty cool huh?

Psalm 136:3-9
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
4 to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
5 who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
6 who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
7 who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
8 the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
9 the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.
I love you oh Lord! For that I put my trust in You! I see your work and I am put in awe of your wonders!

• Mar. 4, 2009 - Love of God-A Hymn
The LOVE of GOD
By Frederick M. Lehman in the year 1917
- The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.
- Refrain:
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
- When hoary time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
- Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
Our spiritual relationships with God can be difficult. I often feel personal sadness over my mistakes and refuse to let go of them. I have to REMIND myself that the guilt I feel over my sins can be swept away when I ask for forgiveness. God pours over us sweet love from His never ending supply, and when He forgives us, we don't need to hold on to the guilt. WE ARE LOVED AND FORGIVEN!
It is a hard thing to release our guilt and allow the love of God to surround us, but when it happens, nothing can compare!

• Feb. 5, 2009 - Psalm 22
This is a messianic Psalm, a prophesy about Christ. It is very sad, but it is also extremely touching and worth the read. David wrote it, and it is read as if Jesus is talking.
Enjoy.
Psalm 22
For the director of music. To the tune of "The Doe of the Morning." A psalm of David.
1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from the words of my groaning?
2 O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
by night, and am not silent.
3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One;
you are the praise of Israel. [a]
4 In you our fathers put their trust;
they trusted and you delivered them.
5 They cried to you and were saved;
in you they trusted and were not disappointed.
6 But I am a worm and not a man,
scorned by men and despised by the people.
7 All who see me mock me;
they hurl insults, shaking their heads:
8 "He trusts in the LORD;
let the LORD rescue him.
Let him deliver him,
since he delights in him."
9 Yet you brought me out of the womb;
you made me trust in you
even at my mother's breast.
10 From birth I was cast upon you;
from my mother's womb you have been my God.
11 Do not be far from me,
for trouble is near
and there is no one to help.
12 Many bulls surround me;
strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
13 Roaring lions tearing their prey
open their mouths wide against me.
14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint.
My heart has turned to wax;
it has melted away within me.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth;
you lay me [b] in the dust of death.
16 Dogs have surrounded me;
a band of evil men has encircled me,
they have pierced [c] my hands and my feet.
17 I can count all my bones;
people stare and gloat over me.
18 They divide my garments among them
and cast lots for my clothing.
19 But you, O LORD, be not far off;
O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
20 Deliver my life from the sword,
my precious life from the power of the dogs.
21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions;
save [d] me from the horns of the wild oxen.
22 I will declare your name to my brothers;
in the congregation I will praise you.
23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!
All you descendants of Jacob, honor him!
Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or disdained
the suffering of the afflicted one;
he has not hidden his face from him
but has listened to his cry for help.
25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly;
before those who fear you [e] will I fulfill my vows.
26 The poor will eat and be satisfied;
they who seek the LORD will praise him—
may your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth
will remember and turn to the LORD,
and all the families of the nations
will bow down before him,
28 for dominion belongs to the LORD
and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship;
all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—
those who cannot keep themselves alive.
30 Posterity will serve him;
future generations will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness
to a people yet unborn—
for he has done it.

• Jan. 7, 2009 - A Time
Ecclesiastes 3
A Time for Everything
1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
Whatever times you are going through in this New Year, remember God's faithfulness and kindness!

• Dec. 28, 2008 - Psalm 63
Psalm 63 :1-7

"1 O God, you are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you,
my body longs for you,
in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6 On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings...."

• Dec. 26, 2008 - Mary's Song
LUKE 1:46-55

46And Mary said:
"My soul glorifies the Lord
47and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55to Abraham and his descendants forever,
even as he said to our fathers." |

• Dec. 24, 2008 - Mary had a little Lamb
We celebrate every Christmas the birth of Christ. But, i always end up thinking about Easter when ever I sing carols and read Luke. Jesus Christ was born to free us from our sins. He was the perfect sacrifice. Jesus has many names, (and rightly so), but one that is particular catching in this season is His name "Lamb".
Last night, my father was reading us Luke, and, however it happened, the song 'Mary had a Little Lamb' came to mind. It's really funny, in the Christmas story, Mary did have a little lamb...and His fleece was WHITE AS SNOW. What does this song remind you of?
Merry Christmas everyone.
Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow
Everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went,
Everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go
It followed her to school one day
School one day, school one day
It followed her to school one day
Which was against the rules.
(O,k...sorry. Had to but in right here. Does this remind anyone of our schools in this Country?)
It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play, laugh and play,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school
And so the teacher turned it out,
Turned it out, turned it out,
And so the teacher turned it out,
But still it lingered near
(hmmmm...)
And waited patiently about,
Patiently about, patiently about,
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
The eager children cry
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
Loves the lamb, you know, loves the lamb, you know
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
The teacher did reply
(this part isn't quite right. Jesus, our Lamb, first loved us. But the rest of the song is pretty cool! It could be taken though, as Mary believed in Jesus.)

• Dec. 24, 2008 - We Three Kings
'We Three Kings' was sung at my church last week. I never noticed how much I liked it. So, in honor of Christmas, here are the lyrics.
Have a blessed 24&25. Remember Christ came to save us through grace. We rest in Him with love and serve Him through thankfulness.
God Bless!
We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light
Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to rein
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Pray'r and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes of life of gathering gloom
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light
Glorious now behold Him arise
King and God and Sacrifice
Alleluia, Alleluia
Earth to heav'n replies
O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light |

• Sep. 21, 2008 - Grace---A Poem
Give me Grace so I can stand,
A little straighter near your hand,
Give me Grace so I can spread,
Your Holy word which is my bead,
Give me Grace so I can sing,
Of sweet forgiveness that you bring,
Give me Grace so I can live,
The acceptance that you give! |

• Aug. 18, 2008 - Awesome Waves
Taking a pause from my usual poetry posts, I need to reflect on the awesome works of God. I 'm currently vacationing in the most tropical place in America, Hawaii. I'm from the desert, so this whole experience is jaw-dropping. The numbers of people here, the shops and markets, the fruit-----wonderous! But the most amazing thing I have found here are the waves!
In many of my poems I have compared God to the ocean, but never before have I seen the sea. I DIDN'T FULLY KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT! Yes I admit it, I was totally oblivious to the power and might of the sea.
David too talked about the sea in his Psalms. I have no idea if he ever saw the ocean first hand, but nevertheless the amount of times he referres to it is mind-boggleing. I chalenge anyone who wants to, to go through Psalms 90-100 and count the times the ocean, the sea or the waves/waters are mentioned. Then comment me!
Please remember that God's creation is so much bigger than just your hometown. I learned that this month. HE IS SO CREATIVE! Our God shows His might through His works! I love Him all the more for it! When I'm in the ocean, being tossed about, I think what a Perfect God I have!
In our travels here in Oahu, we went to The Valley of The Temples, where we toured a Japenese Temple. A huge golden Buddah sat in the middle of the place. He was big AND intemidating. But the ocean is so much more so! Imagine-if God can create the ocean-with billions of fish, coral and plants, than He Himself must be even more Grand and Powerful! A stupid idol can't even move-could it create a drop of water...no! Our God is alive and working! If you've ever seen the waters our Lord has made, then you know what I'm talking about!
Love you all-God Bless you

• Aug. 10, 2008 - Hang'n On
Hang'n On
By Lexi
Hang'n on to Jesus,
When the times are tough,
Hang'n on to Jesus,
When the way gets rough,
Hang'n on to Jesus,
When He's the only rope,
Hang'n on to Jesus
'Cause He's our only hope,
Hang'n on to Jesus,
'Cause only He can save,
Hang'n on to Jesus,
When no longer we feel brave,
Hang'n on to Jesus,
When down below waits death,
Hang'n on to Jesus,
With our final breathe!
I pray everyone who reads this will be reminded that our Saviour loves them so deeply, and is like a thick rope, that stretches so long you can grasp it no matter how far away from God you are. The number one thing that draws me to the Lord, is that He is a friend. Foremost, Jesus is my buddy and I love him so much!
I had to trust God in a way I've never had to before. This summer, I was offered to tag along on a really cool trip. I said yes, thinking the people were going to pay for my plane ticket. Well...they weren't planning to! So, I had to come up with $630 in a matter of days! Let me tell you, it was HARD to trust God! But, He came through and I got the money! Now, I want you all to know that even if God didn't provide the money, He is still alive and working! Please take a moment and imagine God reaching down with a hug for you. Now return it! Believe Jesus is your rope! He certainly is mine!
God Bless
~Lexi

• Jun. 7, 2008 - God... I want to!
God I want to meditate on your mountain-top.
The mountain-top brimming with your creation and majesty.
God I want to gather shells along your beach,
The beach scattered with shells I can store up in heaven.
God I want to be tried in your throne-room,
The throne-room abounding with compassion and mercy.
God I want to read in your library,
The library stocked with wisdom and knowledge.
God I want to wear your armor,
The armor fitted for protection and victory.
God I want to work alongside your people,
The people who understand your purpose and promise.
God I want to sing inside your tunnel,
The tunnel that can carry my song to you.
God I want to rest in your pastures,
The pastures without worry, fear or harm.
God, one day I want to dwell in your kingdom,
The Kingdom built for your Honor and your Glory.
