Aug. 4, 2007 - A title by any other name (would still be a title)
How long can it possibly take to come up with a thread title? Well, for me it has taken too long so I'll just move onto the post itself! lol Writing something like "My Update" just sounds too mundane :)
This time away from cyber space has been great! I hadn't realized just how much I was overlooking by taking my focus off of my home to 'play' on the computer! So sad, really. So, what's changed? Well:
- Household: Let's start with something easy. Obviously, my house is getting back in order since I'm using my time more constructively. It's a good thing too. Our schoolroom needed a major overhaul. By organizing, I was able to set up a dedicated space for scrapbooking and sewing! Praise the Lord. I often don't work on these projects because setting up on the kitchen table is so overwhelming. By the time I'm set up, it's time to put it away :)
- Children: Well, let's say I've had the time to re-read To Train Up A Child Our home is becoming a much happier place. The children function much better when boundaries are enforced. TTUAC really is geared more towards younger children but just the encouragement to do the right thing was worth the re-read.
- Personally: Have you ever felt like you've forgotten who you are? As moms, we wear so many hats - wife, mom, daughter, sister, teacher, homemaker, maybe SS teacher, in my case, Pastor's wife. I realized that I have completely lost sight of who I am - the me that doesn't fit into a nice neat title. Who am I? What do I enjoy? What interests me? Our lives are those of service to the Lord, to our husbands, to our family, to our church, to others....that's the way it's supposed to be. I've realized though that neglecting legitimate personal needs not only is detrimental to me but to my ability to effectively serve others.
A couple of prayer requests:
- Continue to pray for Heather.
- We still are praying for a miracle pregnancy. I would willingly go back to the fertility specialist but I think it's out of desperation. DH has NO peace about it and I definitely do not want to do something out of God's will.
- School re-starts for us on Monday. This year is critical. 1d9 will be 10 in December. She still reads on an early 2nd grade level and her spelling is atrocious! I am at my wits end as to how to handle the dyslexia. I've tried to not obsess about it but I'm getting overwhelmed. She spells the way she talks and since she's seen a speech therapist for several years, you can just imagine how bad that is! And on top of that, the twins are starting K this year so I'm going to be busy.
SCHOOL:
In case anyone is interested in what we're doing. For the twins, they'll be following the A Beka K-5 curriculum.
1g9 is using:
Well, I guess that's more than anyone wanted to know but ~sigh~ lol And I still don't have a title!
- Bible: Landmark
- English: A Workbook for Dyslexics and finishing up 3rd grade ACE paces
- Spelling: I bought the AVCO sequential spelling but I do not like it so I'm not sure what we'll be doing.
- Reading: Christian Light readers, second half of 2nd grade
- Math: ACE
- History: A Beka 4th grade
- Science: A Beka (not sure of the grade book that I have)
- Art: A Beka 4th grade
Have a blessed weekend!

Thanks for leaving your words of encouragement!!! I keep forgetting that homeschooling is God's plan for my family...not mine. (I just happen to agree with Him.) I need to let Him control my families homeschool adventure...NOT ME!!!!!!!!! I know He will provide what my children need when they need it...I need to keep repeating that!
Thanks again!
Your Friend In Christ,
Shay
PS - I thoroughly enjoyed your update :)
